I've been playing for about 3 days now (once I figured out how to fix the crash to desktop problem ... tech support was little to no help). Since then, very stable ... only one area that crashed and I seemed to be able to reproduce it there, bu tno where else.As for the game, it seems HUGE. It is very different from Wizardy 8 and I was really surpised that I am liking it as much as I do. I find many aspects that remind me many other games I have enjoyed (and nothing that reminds of any bad games, I just realized). It seems a litte of Thief, the Dark Project; Wizardry 7; Myst; Ultima (the good ones); Uukrul; and Star Trails all made it in this game.
Though you only create and play one character, you do find other that will join you (mostly for you to help/escort them). Character creation is not like Wizardry, but still enjoyable. YOu can choose to answer questions, pick a class or create a custom class. Each class and race has their own special abilities, as well as some you can pick up when choosing the sign you were born under. So, for my Nord (my choice) Barbarian (selected by answering the 10 questions) who was born under the sign of the Ritual, I can cast Thunder Fist and Shield, along with the abilites to Resist shock and immune to Frost (from being a Nord) I can heal myself and turn undead (once a day). Being a barbarian didn't net me anthing really special, just a frenzied fighter with bad manners apparently
So far, I think I have been to about 7 cities and a few other special areas (mines, caves), out of over 50 named cities on the world map (poster comes with the game) and many other un-named ruins, other areas .... Many of the quests so far are the "fedex" variety ... go here, do this, talk to so-and-so, retrieve said item, kill these bandits, ... etc. I know a lot of people don't care for those (me being one of them), but there is much to do and see along the way (and other side quests to find). That and the fact that you can join multiple guilds (fighter, mage, thief and other factions) and have many quests going at the same time, saves a bit of travel.
Travel on foot is slow going, but for moving around in the city it is not too bad. There are also a few ways to quickly get from one city to another (for a few bucks).
This game really intrigues me and gives the underlying feeling of a whole world to explore, for two reasons.
1) Everywhere you go there are books and scrolls to read, that have a lot of lore, clues, riddles, etc. (reminiscent of Wiz 7 for me).
2) NPCs - though you can't type in the words you want to say, I have yet to feel *too* limited in conversing with the many locals. Anyone that has something to say, lets you know by topics listed.
There is some humor, but nothing so far on par with the Wizardry franchise.
The game also comes with an editor (something people probably think I would start off with ), but I haven't even got that far yet ... too busy with the game.
