Importing characters from Wizardry 1 to 2 can be accomplished by doing the following tasks:
Copy save1.dsk - that is the first Wizardry's savegame - into the Wizardry 2 directory. Start Wizardry 2 and press S for starting the game. Press E for Edge of Town. Press U for Utilities. Press M for Move Characters. Select all the characters you'd like to import to Wizardry 2. Now you can go to Gilgamesh's Tavern and add them to your party.

Importing characters from Wizardry 1 and 2 to 3 can be achieved by these steps:
Copy save1.dsk and/or save2.dsk into the Wizardry 3 directory. Start Wizardry 3 and press S, E, U, M and then you will be asked if you want to import from Proving Grounds or Knight of Diamonds. Select 1 or 2 and then select all characters you want to import.

I hope your characters aren't going to topple over from all the badges and honor medals, though

Strange, i have no file with name 'save1.dsk'; theres only wiz1.dsk. Maybe i must finish wizardry 1 first?

I'm playing the Ultimate Wizardry Archives' version and have the saveX.dsk files in the wizard15 directory. I tried and I can't even play the game without the savex.dsk file in place. Are you sure you don't have a saveX.dsk somewhere? What version are you playing? I've got three files in my Wizardry 1 directory:

save1.dsk 640 KB
wiz1.com 2 KB
wiz1.dsk 320 KB

Every time I leave the game, the progress and changes I've made are stored in save1.dsk, which shows an updated timestamp.

4. "I guess it is old dos version"
I'm not sure which version it is, my friend gave it to me, but its not from ultimate wizardry archives, thats for sure.
There are following files in game directory:
wiz1.bat 1K
wiz1.dsk 320K
wiz1.icn 1K
wiz1m.icn 1K
wiz1make.but 1K (for scenario disk, i think)
wizdos.com 2K

The last file says it is dos version, though i had no problems running it under windows.

I'm sure there are no save files. All chars saved in wiz1.dsk.
Wizardy 2 has the same files (except wiz2.icn), but with '2s' in their names.

I tried to fo almost everything with wiz1.dsk and had no success.
It seems the game tries to move chars when i use move chars option. It deletes them from wiz1.dsk and then... writes them back! I tried to use diskettes (i changed them, when the game asked) and i found, that the game cannot use any '.dsk' file except its own, because it is keeps it constantly opened while game works.

Maybe when i will complete the game it will create the save file?
