"Best Race/Class/Weapon Party"
I have decided to create a new party to find which Race/Class/Weapon combo is the greatest killing machine (this will be using an editor). I wont be concentrating on adventuring as much just killing anything that moves and see who has the highest kill ratio at the end. So far I have decided on:

Lizardman Fighter - Excalibur
Faerie Ninja - Coc/Sprites Dagger
Samurai (Race TBD) - Muramasa Blade/Ench. Wakisashi
Hobbit Thief - Light Sword/Thieves Dagger
Lord (Race TBD) - Fang/Diamond Eyes
Monk (Race TBD) - Z-bo

I am going to start the game with their specified weapons and keep them for the entirety of the game. I will post the winner once completed (if anyone is interested). If anyone has any other suggestions for potentially better class/weapon combos let me know.

For the Faerie Ninja, the Rod of Sprites has better stats than the Sprites Dagger.

Rod of Sprites:
Damage: 6 - 18
To Hit: +2
Initiative: +5
Special Attack: Hex 50%
Skills: Staff & Wand

Sprite's Dagger:
Damage: 3 - 14
To Hit: +1
Initiative: +4
Skills: Dagger
Stamina Regeneration: +1

Plus it is the same weapon type as the CoC, so you can build Staff&Wand faster.

Thanks for that, I just never thought of it since I never found it in Wiz 8 (only wiz 7)

I went with a Rawulf Lord, Dracon Samurai and Felpurr Monk and gave my F-N the rod of sprites.

initially my predictions for most kills were:
1. fighter
2. rogue
3. ninja
4. samurai
5. monk
6. lord

so far on my way to Trynton the Fighter is ruling with the rogue, ninja and lord surprisingly holding their own very well. I was expecting the hybrids to take a little longer anyway. My Samurai has been sucking big time but I am sure it wont take too long for him to come into his own. My lord seems to hit and penetrate more than any of the others but when my fighter and rogue hit they usually kill.

I agree the Rod of Sprites is an outstanding offhand weapon. However, I've never actually seen it referenced in any discussions wrt Wiz 8 (we all know it was a gun weapon in Wiz 7 - CoDS), and have never come across it myself.

Without revealing the exact location, have you actually come across the RoS in Wiz 8 ???

I heard that some very high level sprites will drop it, and that they are usually found when playing on expert level. I never found it either but it was available on the editor.

I gave up when the team got to Ascension Peak (too boring).

Fighter>Excalibur had 3 times the kills over Rogue>LS with FN>CoC just behind in 3rd. My lord>Fang (which I replaced with Excalibur after DJL - couldnt resist since its only the 2nd time I have got it legitimately) was an impressive fourth beating out Samurai>Muramasa Blade and my lowly Monk>Z-Bo never made much of an impact.

I just got Bane so that will take up my time for a while.

I would have thought the rogue would have been the leader in kills, given his backstab bonus.

How did you have your party lined up? So all could be in close range?

I used the bowtie (everyone in the middle and flanks) lineup so that everyone was in melee position and my monk was the only hitter for out of reach groups (which was useful when fighting from behind a doorway). My rogue definately did well and a lot of the time had higher damage than the fighter (highest by memory was approx 240 in one strike) but also missed a lot. I started my fighter with regular hitting and switched to bezerk after a few level ups so by the time the rogue was at his peak the fighter was just way beyond reach of everybody. My lord was actually second in kills for a while until the rogue reached his fighting peak, Fang and DE was awesome early on due to the instakill and DE effects but couldnt stand up to the pure damage of Excalibur and LS later on. The Samurai was very disappointing with Muri, didnt really do anything decent until around level 13-14. It also took my FN a while to get good at his Coc.

So basically overall the fighter and lord were very good early on and by the time the rest came into their own the fighter was so far ahead of everyone else there was just no comparison.

I like the overall makeup of this party, ie lots of hybrids, excellent melee and covering all 4 spellbooks. Once my lord started cranking out heal spells there was very little difficulty only downside was lack of early magic and I made the mistake of doing a kill everyone team without asking questions which meant I got very little spellbooks.

It gave me an idea for a balanced team to go through 6>7>8 which is:
Liz>Fighter
Raw>Lord
Fel>Monk
Fae>Thief/Alchemist/Ninja
Hob>Bard/Samurai(maybe)
Elf>Bishop

I'm in reasonable agreement with all the above comments.

My party is: (imported from W7, but bishop which changed profession to a valkyrie, changed back to bishop to import to W8, seeing as I wanted a bishop in the party)

- Faerie Ninja: Cane of Corpus + Rod of Sprites (most kills)
- Hobbit Ninja: LS + enchanted wakizashi
- Felpurr Lord: Fang + Diamond Eyes (with dual weapons, this seems a far superior combination than with Excalibur, which he only uses to keep from rusting)
- Mook Monk: Zatoichi Bo
- Rawulf Samurai: Muramasa blade + enchanted wakizashi (a very close second in kills)
- Elf Bishop: Vampire Chain + light shield, making her hard to hit

We generally go round in the melee formation, with the bishop at the back, but she can attack if bored since VC is extended.

Interestingly enough, outside of my elf bishop who prefers to sit back and sizzle or disable opponents, my monk with Zatoichi Bo also seems to lag way behind. Looking at the above weapons and skills, it makes me think that ZBo is not so great (even though extended), since it's the only one of my fighters not to use dual weapons.

Also, I've had RFS-81 with my party since the day we met, and with his martial arts skill and high strength, dexterity and critical kill, he seems to do more easily more damage (more often) per round than my monk with ZBo. He joined when my group were around level 10 (??), so I can't compare kills with my fighters, but I'd say he'd be right up there, and does more damage per round (3 attacks and 3 swings/attack for feet and hands!!) as well as KO and criticals.

This makes me think a monk using martial arts is much better, and given RFS-81, why have a monk at all?!? (Monks seemed to be relatively more powerful in Wiz 7). And the ZB can stay in the closet.
