"Trapped in Jigsaw Bank (W5) - please help!"
Can anyone help? I appear to have found a "feature" in the Maelstrom. I saved my game in the Jigsaw Bank and Trust and quit. When I started playing again the next day, I found I was trapped! Apparently all the secret doors close when you exit the game, and you have to be on the outside to open them. Now I'm buggered - my backup savegame is old enough that there's really no point.

The only thing I could think of was to try to win battles and then open a chest with a teleport trap on it. But after a few battles I lose hp, spells, and the ability to keep winning battles, and it wasn't working anyway. I have a hex editor, but I don't know where in the savegame file it stores party location.

Is there any good information about this?

Many thanks. If Sir-Tech is reading, I just want you to know that Maelstrom is my all-time favorite.

Are you in the Bank (where the floor tiles say things like "nofe"), or have you already used the Gold key and transported to the Hall of Mirrors?

Either way, as far as I can tell, you shouldn't be completely boxed in within either of these places, so there may be a simple walkway out (I'm also assmuming you're out of MALOR/LOKTOFEIT or can't cast them).

If you haven't already read through the walkthrough on my page, and see that and the accompanying maps for possible guidance.

Regardless, this may be a hard lesson to backup your scenario file frequently!

I appreciate your help. I'll send you the file as soon as I figure out how. Meanwhile ...

I can't believe I'm typing this ...

The SAME THING just happened to my CoDS party! They found the little secret room in the bank vault in New City, then saved the game there before opening the treasure chest. A few of them died opening it, so I restored the save and found them trapped, with the secret door shut behind them.

What the hell is it with me and banks?? I know the problem isn't in my system, because this and the previous problem happened on two different computers. I think I may be cursed.

Anyway, do you know where in a Wizardry 7 savegame file the party's location is stored? This time I have a more recent backup, but it's the principle of the thing that matters -- I want to know how to fix it.

Many thanks, again.

erm, what I just wrote was meant to be a reply to Apsen (below). Sorry, I'm kind of new to this forum and I may have to screw it up once or twice before I become adept.

cheers

I'm lost. I don't remember a bank being in Wizardry 5 Heart of the Maelstrom. Are you referring to Wizardry 7 (or wiz gold) because someone mentions New City a few replies in. If it is Wiz 5, on what level is this bank you speak of? Maybe this area never made it to the SNES version, which is the only one I played. Are there that big of differences between the pc and snes versions of wiz 5?

Welcome to the boards, but beware of necroposting. This question was asked nine YEARS ago. If he didn't get a solution back then, odds are that he has long since moved on.
