"I need to get my copy"
Well, whenver I get my butt to Best Buy, or Wal-Mart decides to order it or carry it...then I can join this conversation.

Maybe, it will arrive before my birthday, which is early next month. I will have to buy it myself, because the hubby won't remember that I said that I wanted it. But I will keep coming in here and reading about all of your adventures.

1. "Better hurry :)"
Chips & Bits has them in stock again ... no telling how long the stock lasts. A bit of warning though, don't expect to play the game in Direct 3D mode. It may work, it does for many, but that way in case it doesn't, you won't be disappointed

Mine (I got last night) crashed every 10 minutes on D3D mode - but that may just be my card (DooDoo 3 3000 AGP), since Everquest used to crash all the time as well, and we could never get that to work (with the latest drivers). Once I switched to software mode (instead of D3D) not one crash.

Got it at EB. Waiting to be finished with BG2 first though.

Got mine from EB as well. Boy was I surprised when the UPS man knocked on the door two days later, considering the EB website said the order was still processing. I wasn't expecting it to ship out 'til the end of the week, but I ended up receiving it. Needless to say, I was a happy camper. I'm also currently running in software mode with no problems. It's a bit aggravating that you can't alt-tab in and out without having problems, but what the hey, you shouldn't be doing anything else while playing anyways :p. I'm gonna have to jack a different laptop from work just to see how much better the hardware mode looks.

4. "Software - Hardware"
I have not seen much difference between the two modes.
I should go back to a couple of the graphic bugs I saw (bucket and birds) and see if there is a difference there. As for scrolling along, it's hard to tell if anything has changed.

5. "Software vs Hadware and alt/tab"
For me the only differences (asides from crashes) in the modes are:
1. In Hardware mode, the text in the cities and on display/review screens is blurred or washed-out around the edges
2. In Hardware mode, the cursor and game seems to be more sluggish (running a 266 PII, 64 MB Ram).
3. In Software mode, the icons (for travel, look, etc.) in your main window are larger.

Other than that, I can't tell any difference between the two.

I guess the no Alt/Tab thing is to keep people from running "spy" programs to look at the code as it is running

6. "RE: Software vs Hadware and alt/tab"
Oh wow, so hardware rendered mode doesn't really even look that much better? That kind of bites. You can alt-tab out, but the main problem is certain things don't refresh. The main one being the mouse pointer. So basically you can move your mouse around, but won't really know where it is until you highlight something. Pretty f*@#ing annoying.

8. "Actually, hardware more looks worse"
With the "fuzzy font", not that I really care, since it always crashes (again, this could be a bad video card on my system). They only "drawback" for me is larger icons in your view, in software mode ... who cares?

Oh, yeah, there was one other difference in Hardware mode: when you click on some things like slider bars, other areas of the screen, like the character portraits and circluar icons at the top of the review screens, continually flash (as if repainting themselves) while you hold the mouse button down.

Again, glad I am running Software Mode.

Wow, that seems to defeat the whole purpose of having a hardware mode. Don't think I'll bother in that case. What kind of vid card do you use?

And like I said, I've had crashes with other games, so it may be my configuration or card or system or .... I don't really care to find out (right now) since Software mode is better for me.

11. "Me too..."
I'll keep coming here to listen to all the adventures I'm missing and waiting to see how the bugs are addressed. So far the game seems good and the interface seems not so good. I trust your opinions, so keep up the feedback.

I'll have to wait for the game awhile longer though. Sigh.
It's on my Christmas list.

12. "RE: Me too..."
I preordered mine from chips and bits, but ordered only 4 days fromthe release date. I called yesterday and they said it was going out Monday (Columbus day..no UPS, no mail) so hopefully it is not "Your check is in the mail" but simply that the poor guys are so loaded with orders thhat they don;t know what day this is, let alone what day Monday is. Hopefully sometime next week. Bugs or no, I am looking forward to it. In the meantime I am playing a two person party in wiz 7, never played a small party before..it is very different. Longlive wizardry!.. Joan

13. "RE: I need to get my copy"
I saw several copies of the game. One was at Best Buy which was the 1st store I went to and the next was at Software Etc.

The Deluxe Edition I payed close to $60 for with tax. The game was $54 and the tax was whatever it was.

The game did not run on the computer so I ended up taking it back and getting store credit where I stumbled upon a copy of the Wizardry Archives, could not believe it hehe.

Anyway best of luck getting the game. Its out there, just have to look for it and be willing to pay for it as well.

Best of luck and an early happy B-day.

14. "I'll ya sell mine :)"
I've quit playing it and can't see starting back up anytime soon, at least not before I get a faster computer (and holding my breath for the unofficial patch). I just do not have enough time to deal with this game (that and I needed the GIG up HD space it was occupying).

So you say the game isn't worth playing. I am so glad that I have held off for as long as I did. I still haven't bought it...waiting for a patch and the price to come down and then...maybe.

Right now I am playing Duke Nukem 3d...I bet you didn't know I was that violent of a gal. Got you fooled...<weg>!!

16. "Not so much bad, as worse"
The game is good - even great, in a number of aspects. But a number of things just made it increasingly prohibitive to play. With my poor old, outdated poverty level machine (PII 266/ 64 MB Ram), load times every time I faced the Amazoni Mantraps, the whole painful interface (that I was becoming numb to the pain ) and worry that I would encounter some plot bug or other problems ... I quit playing, while waiting for the (unofficial, since Activision doesn't give a crap) patch ...

In the mean time, I have found better things to do, so I really don't miss it. Though once the patch comes out and I get a faster machine, my interest may re-kindle.
