"Borrowed copy of W&W"
Well, where to start. To the person that I borrowed this game from *smooch*...you are a doll. I will now be being my own game, as I am addicted to it...MAJOR!! I figured that by borrowing this game, that I could see if it would indeed run on my computer (hate to spend 50 dollars for nothing), and it does perfect.

It took 20 minutes to load the game on my computer and I be darned if I can figure out why. Heck...PSP 7 is about that size and it loaded quick. Spent two hours rolling characters and figuring how to get stuff on them...eeeekkk NEKKED people. I had my party and we went to the other gate and died most horrendously in about 5 minutes.

Was going to re-roll the characters, when I saw that the Armoury has limited supplies of things. Bummer!! So I cheated a little...I rolled up 10 characters...gave the gold to a few and resurrected my characters. Ahh...I see the Wiz gold maker works in this world too, which was good because I died 3 more times. Darnit...this is a challenge that I like.

Now I get to find out the bugs...and I may have an answer to all about the "software rendering" mode. When Direct X7 came out, it was buggier than anything. I have Direct X7a which they had fixed previous problems...so I ran the game normally without problems. But this does bring up a question...

When Wizardry 8 comes out, will I then have a problem...because my computer is not the fastest anymore...it is obsolete, will I have to buy a new system to handle the new requirements? After all, the game "Alice" says that my computer is the basics and it recommends just a little more than mine can give.

Alice?
Would that be a game my 6 yr. old could play?

How is that game anyway? Read the box but thought that a butcher knife is not quite as fun as a 6 barrelled rocket launcher like in Unreal (a game with built in cheats like god mode) or TR with the sexy Laura Croft.

Must admit though, when a game gives you the option to cheat up front, as opposed to discovering an exploitable bug like the Mystery menus, I tend not to cheat....go figure?

Alice is not for kids...but you knew that, right??

I wouldn't have cheated either, but I hate dying. I used to do that in Wizardry 1 as well. I could have rolled up a slew of characters and gone to the armoury and bought all the nice stuff, but I didn't. I behaved!!!

Have you played "Alice" yet?? Looks positively wicked.

So what is your Opinion of W&W so far?

I have put off getting it due to the bad press and all about it.
Too many bugs of the wrong kind and all

I have not played Alice yet because my 6 yr. old likes to look over my shoulder on occasion. Wouldn't want to give him the wrong impression of a classic story.
I'll wait 'till he's 7

I love it, although I had to re-roll all my characters, because when I was testing the program I just took the fist roll-up. I kept dying, so yesterday I re-rolled them and got into the graveyard and am in the Crypt at present.

I like it and would recommend it to anyone who can get it to work on their computer. Although, it does remind me of another game that I love so well...Wizardry. Even my husband says it looks alot like Wizardry and Bard's Tale and I must agree that it does.

Might buy Alice and then again... My daughter watches over my shoulder too, but she knows that this is not real...she is 8.

I would wait for it to hit the bargain bin, honestly. I love CRPGs and can put up with a lot of shortcomings, but W&W really just drove me nuts. I wrote a long review of it on another board a while back, most of which I forget but I do remember a few things...

-The interface is horrid. You don't notice it right away, but give it a while to sink in. I don't mind using the mouse, but not for every darn thing. There are no simple shortcuts (selecting a character, spell, or item for example). And the way everything is laid out means you'll have carpal tunnel by the end of the game. For example, you can't use stuff in your inventory by clicking on it. Let's say you have a lockpick in your backpack. You have to use the mouse(of course) to scroll through each item in a little picture window until you find it -- that can be upwards of 20 clicks. Spells aren't quite as bad to select, but there appears to be a bug which adds an extra 2 or 3 clicks to the process under some circumstance because the program "forgets" your spell history.
-Bards are useless because of the interface. Since you cannot select an instrument from your inventory to play with one click, you have to scroll through your entire backpack inventory *every* time you want to use one. Instruments cannot go in quick slots. This is just glaring, but representative of the whole game.
-The skybox is way too small. I didn't mind this too much, but once you get to the third town you'll double over laughing as you sail across the "great wide ocean" only to be confronted with palm-tree wallpaper 20 feet from your face. The truth is that the 3D code is really poor and extending the clipping out (even to max) slows your system down in some scenes (Shurugeon or Skull Castle for example). It doesn't extend far enough, but IMO any further and the game would run at 2fps.
-Busted quests. I think they've fixed a lot of these so that's to their credit.
-Critical character corruption bug. Not sure if they fixed this (it was a known bug) but two of my save games were corrupted and I lost about 10 hours play time.
-Other bugs out the wazoo. Hopefully they've fixed the showstopper ones.
