Don't get too excited ... I don't have the time, money, resources, (all of the) know-how ... or really enough energy, after the 16-month remodel.But, I figure if I don't say "I'm going to do it" ... I'll never start. I imagine it will take me 5 years (or so) ... which would make it my son's graduation present from high school
It will be an RPG, inspired by Wizardry of course. I've been kicking around ideas, jotting down notes for gameplay and quests, items and monsters, heroes and villains, and such for a while.
I've recently picked a game engine to get the whole thing started: Irrlicht. It has been around a long time, seems very stable, has an active community ... and most important, when you download it and try the examples/tutorials ... they work! (Novel concept for some others out there).
Between flushing out the game details, learning 3d programming (at least Irrlicht-style), learning about all the 3d resources (like the "models" that you animate) ... and life in general, I figure 5 years is a decent ballpark estimate for now.
