I'm not strongly associated with D&D, but Proving Grounds seems to be the great grandaddy to putting D&D type playaction on the computer. As for race similarities, your comments reminds me of that game, you know the one, with the fighters and spell casters ... As Wittgenstein says somewhere 'If you wrap up different kinds of furniture in enough wrapping paper, you can make them all look the same shape.' And now we find that this quote has expository value in RPGs as well as comparative religion. Whether its your Monk in Bard's Tale or your Ninja in Wizardry, etc. they're all cut from the same mold.
And another thing, if I see another fantasy book with a quote on the back cover calling the author 'the next Tolkien' I just might go mental and start reading those Harry Potter books (which make me feel like I've been drinking Guiness all my life and everyone's all now abuzz for having discovered Coors Light, plus they're are also throwing off my Wizardry search results - as 'Wizardry' is apparently in one of the titles - dang nabbit).
