"Wizardry and AD&D"
I was wondering if anyone in these boards is into AD&D role-playing as well as the Wizardry series, like me. Anyway, the following probably won't make sense if you've never played AD&D, but I have noticed a lot of similarities in CotDS/WizGold and the AD&D role-playing game. The Dane, for example, look alot like the race called the Arcane in the AD&D Monstrous Manual (right down to the picture of a tall skinny bald guy with blue skin and a penchant for using magic). The Umpani (rhino-men) resemble the AD&D race, the Giff (hippo-men who favor firearms such as the arquebus and travel aboard spelljamming - spacefaring - ships). The Gorn appear somewhat like halfway civilized orcs or orges, while the Rattkin are similar to wererats (shapeshifting lycanthropes who can change forms between men, giant rats, and rat-men hybrids). The T'rang, I think, closely resemble the Neogi and would probably would mix well with the drow (dark elves who worship a spider deity). I've even come up with stats for the T'rang to use as an AD&D monster race (I posted this up on the web if anyone is interested in looking over it, I can post up a link as well). Has anyone else here come up with statistics for other Wizardry type races or monsters for the AD&D RPG system?

I'm not strongly associated with D&D, but Proving Grounds seems to be the great grandaddy to putting D&D type playaction on the computer. As for race similarities, your comments reminds me of that game, you know the one, with the fighters and spell casters ...

As Wittgenstein says somewhere 'If you wrap up different kinds of furniture in enough wrapping paper, you can make them all look the same shape.' And now we find that this quote has expository value in RPGs as well as comparative religion. Whether its your Monk in Bard's Tale or your Ninja in Wizardry, etc. they're all cut from the same mold.

And another thing, if I see another fantasy book with a quote on the back cover calling the author 'the next Tolkien' I just might go mental and start reading those Harry Potter books (which make me feel like I've been drinking Guiness all my life and everyone's all now abuzz for having discovered Coors Light, plus they're are also throwing off my Wizardry search results - as 'Wizardry' is apparently in one of the titles - dang nabbit).

HEY!! I like Harry Potter books.

See, I am a kid at heart, and that is why I still play my Wiz games and Bard's Tale.

I love a great game of AD&D too. LOL
