"Idol getting solo, impossible?"
Is it possible to get the Idol from Marten's Bluff solo?
I tried with RFS-81 in my party but all the times i picked it up, my mainchar disappeared. And I don't believe that i can kill the frog with this lvl 8 char!
Or is there another way to get it??

1. "RE: Idol getting solo, impossible?"
I believe the short answer is NO.
If you are trying to complete the game as a solo, your options are:
(a) Recruit one or two RPCs to kill the frog while the sole PC is kidnapped;
(b) Kill Crock before grabbing the idol, so no kidnapping occurs;
(c) Contrive the death of the Shaman's ghost, where he first appears (according to the drop lists, he will drop the key of serenity; the challenge is that he cannot be engaged by the party); or
(d) Live with the madness: never pick up the idol; never get the Helm of Serenity; minimize your time holding the DD until you place it in its receptacle (use portals to teleport from Marten to a convenient stash-chest, and then from the chest to the receptacle).

CAVEAT: I have heard of each of these, but never tried any of them, myself. Others are invited to confirm or refute them.
(Personally, I'd love to hear how others manage to get the Shaman's ghost "killed.")

2. " I'll try (c)"
In my current game, I have yet to use the idol ... though I have been lugging it around.

I forget if I read about it here or over at VN, but someone reported doing it. Since the party cannot engage the ghost, I assume the method is to lure something else in there for a prolonged fight. I tried doing that once with the oaks: it wasn't pretty, as they can use magic in that room.

well with RFS-81 u can kill the frog in a Solo Game, just llv him up a little till lvl 10. Let him fight without weapons, so u earn some points at martial arts and critical strike skill.

Try not to get in a fight by walking to the frog (maybe he wont survive the fights at his low lvl), than save and try to kill the frog.
I had a lot of luck, i beat him at the first try, RFS did a instant kill in the 3rd battle round.

than return to croc to get ur self back^^

9. "Time for an update"
I finally got around to it and succeeded: it is, indeed, possible to, *ahem*, "decomission" the shaman's spectre, whereupon, it drops the Key of Serenity.

It's the old indirect fire trick: equip your character(s) with missile weapons, preferably a missile weapon in which you have a low skill level, lure a beastie into the room with the Shaman, and put the Shaman between you and the beastie. Fire away! It may take a little while, and you should probably plan on healing up the beastie to make sure it outlives the shaman's spectre.

Yet another way to solo, or (in my case) to avoid Crock's kidnapping for any reason.

10. "... But only one poroblem?"
Croc is the source of many 4th and 5th level spell books. If you do it this way does he upgrade his inventory to include them. Uniil I completed his quest he didn't upgrade no matter how many times I went to him.

11. "Problems? No problem."
Just for you, I booted up that same game and went to visit Crock, so these are characters that have never completed Crock's frog quest (and never plan to). Here are the spell books he is currently selling:
Book of Ice (Iceball, level 4)
Book of Insight (X-ray, level 4)
Book of Haste (Haste, level 4)
Book of Whirlwinds (Whirlwind, level 4)
Book of Retaliation (Eye for an Eye, level 4, although I am just noticing that, for some reason, it sells at a higher price than the typical level 4 price)
Book of Removal (Remove Curse, level 4; this one sells at an even higher price)
Book of Souls (Soul Shield, level 4)
Book of Armormelt (Armormelt, level 4)
Book of Crushing (Crush, level 4; another high-priced book)
Book of Elements (Element Shield, level 4)
Book of Fire (Firebomb, level 4, another high-pricer)
Book of Fiery Rings (Ring of Fire, level 4; to make up for price gouging elsewhere, Crock sells this one at a discount)
Book of Ego Whip (Ego Whip, level 4)
Book of Acid (Acid Bomb, level 4)
Book of Superman (Superman, level 4)

This party is level 12-13, so the two pure casters (Priest, level 13, and Bishop, level 12), could cast 5th level spells, but Crock doesn't appear to be stocking 5th level spell books just yet. (Or maybe I bought them out on a previous visit, although it would be strange if at least one weren't left behind.) As far as I know, his book inventory is solely dependent on party level, not on quests.

12. "When you wnt to Croc...."
Did you already have the idol? if not then you are correct and it's level dependent but if you had the idol then I suspect that it is idol (quest) dependent. Only reason I'm saying this is I have had parties of levels 15-18 and the books didn't shoe up until I did his stupid quest.

13. "RE: When you wnt to Croc...."
I thought I had made it clear: this party does not have the idol, and plans to never get the idol. They bumped off the Shaman's spectre, instead (which drops the Key of Serenity), and so don't need the idol.

They DO have the Serenity Helm, so I suppose there's a remote possibility that is the trigger, but I would be very surprised if that were the case.

Perhaps you are not seeing the spellbooks because Crock has too much missile inventory? Try buying up his arrows, stones, and quarrels and see if the spellbooks appear and/or try resting 24 hours to restock his inventory, then tell me what happens.

Is it possible to kill the Shaman twice? He has some decent drops(Diamond Eyes, IIRC). I would be very interested if that has ever occurred.
