"This game sucks you back in...."
So I've got the itch to start another Wiz 8 game, but this time with a twist. I'm thinking of trying a three-man party because I like the faster advancement, and I'm also thinking of experimenting with class changing. Here's the party lineup so far:

Male Human Samurai/Rogue: Start out as samurai to build sword/critical strike skill (hopefully maxing the latter). Switch to rogue in the latter half of the game to get access to backstab + stealth. Max out speed and dex first for access to snake speed and reflextion, and then an even split between STR/SEN/INT. Planned endgame equipment is fang/*light shield*.

Goal is to get an ultimate physical tank character who can cast a fast and reasonably high powered element shield for protection. Outrageously high AC combined with stealth and a chance to block with the shield means he will never get hit in practice. Skipping dual wielding means that he'll unlock more attacks/swings sooner and have a higher attack rating. Being a competent lockpicker/artifacts user is icing on the cake.

Female Rawulf Valkyrie/Fighter: For access to the priest spellbook and for physical damage. Standard build, maxing strength and piety first for access to power strike and iron will. Possible switch to fighter once she can cast a max power soul shield/magic screen reliably. Planned endgame equipment is ivory blade/diamond eyes.

Elven Ranger: The other flank character. Mostly for access to the alchemist spellbook and potion mixing. Still unsure about this one, may replace with a ninja, but ranged firepower is inferior due to lack of secondary throwing weapons.

The general idea is to put the uber tank in the front ranks alone. This means that melee enemies will either ignore him (due to stealth) and do nothing, or be forced to attack futilely while the valkyrie and ranger kill unmolested. I'm thinking that reflexion may be overkill on the tank, so what other expert skills could I go for. Powercast? Iron will?

Any suggestions? Has anyone tried this?

1. "Stealth"
In my lone Thief game the effects of Stealth are so well hidden, that's indeed a proof that Stealth works. With 98 points in Stealth now and an average AC of about 26 (varies with equipment), my L15 guy got hit in a recent Rapax fight for beginners in 100% of Rapax Bowmen attacks and more than 2/3 of all attacks by Rapax Patrols, all with penetrating. So I wouldn't plan on never getting hit with such a character...
