Well, I have finally made it to level 23 (maybe 24) and things are getting a bit easier. It seems I was at a perfect spot in charactrer development to tackle the T'rang caverns. All the cave thraxes and crust thraxes gave me enough points to gain about 4 levels, then kill off H'jenn Ra.
The T'rang Elders and Wisers were giving me trouble, in that they cast a lot of Death and even when I remained hidden, I was eventually Slain :c
But, one of the goodies I acquired while in the caverns, Stone of New Life, came in quite handy. It gives an additional 50% resistance to Life Force = no more Slain , even when not hidden.
The other crux (pun intended) I was faced with was the Crux of Crossing. I had already equipped Ymmu's Paw, so had to backtrack to Belcanzor and buy a couple of remove curse scrolls. 1) to let go of the Paw, 2) to let go of the crux once I crossed, so I could get decent whacks on the Vilet Kanabe and 3) to let go of the crux again, once I equipped it to get back across the barrier.
All in all, hardly worth it for the serpent map (10,000) and the 5,000 bonus Exp points (when it is taking 600,000 to make a level).
The last issue/hurdle I have somewhat taken care of is stamina. Having finally got a Water spell (I foolishly scribed stamina early on) I can at least cast some Stamina. And figuring out that swinging, thrusting and bashing takes a lot less out of you than kicking and punching (I'm not sure about biting or screaming). So, I've given up hand & feet for a Walriblade and Ymmu's Paw (love that Stone attack).
So, bottom line, I don't have to tote around 100 loaves of bread any more to maintain stamina.
I am now delving into the Secret Munk temple, gonna do some swimming, cut a few giants down to size and see where travels take me from there.
I think I should go for the snakespeed potion pretty soon. And the recent post about the black door items got me thinking ... is there any of them I can really make good use of? It seems the sword may be of most use to me, since I doubt I will keep any negative regen items, as inventory control is still a big issue.
I really wish I could enslave/pay some Gorn Spearmen or Rattkin Bandits (though I doubt I could trust them with the good stuff) as porters
Further updates as news warrants ...
