"Help on Vi"
Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I did run a search, but didn't find the answer.

I played Wiz8 a few times now, but this is the first time that I played with an imported party. I picked the good ending in Wiz7 (using the spaceship from Phoonzang, and giving the astral dominae to the dark savant in exchange for Vi) and Vi was with me on the beach in front of the monestary in the very beginning of Wiz8. She didn't want to join my party however, wanted to go to Arnika on her own (stupid girl!!!!). Finally reached Arnika, went to the crash site, to find that she was not there!!!!

Can someone please confirm me that with an imported party, she should be at the crash site too? I fear the worst, getting a bit desperate now, had Vi disapearing on me in two other games before (but that was not with an imported party, and happened after dismissing her, and the first time I always found her at the crash site).

If my worst fears are true, is there an editor out there to put Vi back in? I really don't want to start over, with the risk of loosing her again!
Or if there isn't an editor, does anyone know how I can avoid this in the future????

-- Chrissie

The Vanishing Vi bug is probably the worst bug in the game.

Did you pick up an NPC somewhere and then release them in Arnika ?

This has about a 50% chance of deleting Vi from the game. The safest procedure is to save game before releasing ANY NPC in Arnika, then immediately get out of line-of-site (so they teleport to their "home spot") then look to see if Vi is in her spot (He Li's or the crash). If she isn't there, reload and go to A-T Road and release your person there, then find Vi.

One time I released Vi and Sparkle on the same spot in HeLi's. Vi faded out like dead monster parts and Sparkle never appeared. Reload time !

Another time I released Vi on the temple ramp then headed for HeLi's. Suddenly Berzerkers show up and we are in a fight. Vi chased one Gunner down the ramp and out of sight and vanished from radar, reappearing in Heli's. After the battle I went to check on her. She was jammed behind the table where I could not click on her. She had a few movement points left after vanishing and had tried to run directly toward the battle. She wasn't dead but she wasn't recruitable anymore either. Reload time!

Thx for answering!

I *did* recruit Myles by accident when I entered Arnika, and then dismissed him again. So that could have triggered it? So she should still be in an earlier save-game before I ran into Myles? (My previous savegame dates back from the monestary unfortunately, and I'm afraid she might have already vanished in the very beginning, when we crashed on the beached before the monestary, or isn't that possible?)
Anyway, I'll try reloading then.

Isn't there a Putting-Vi-back-in-editor somewhere? I know I had this problem before, with another party, when the game wasn't out that long. I emailed the savegame to the technical support and they put her back in for me, but I don't know if they're still active nowadays.

Anyway,
I reloaded, fought my way back to Arnika, ran straight past Myles, to the shipwreck and yes, there she was!!! Me happy now. Thanks again for the tip on how to avoid this in the future!

I like having Vi in my party, just for roleplay's sake. It's a pity she won't go everywhere though. I'm gonna have to be very carefull whenever I dismiss her.

Besides Vi, I usually take Sparkle along with me. She 's sooooo cute!!! And I love her comments.

Oh, oh, you're on thin ice here... I think Sparkle was once voted "the most annoying NPC" on this board
Me? I like her!

8. "Sparkle ?"
It is interesting to hear someone say that they enjoy taking Sparkle in their party. Good on ya' !

I recruited the RPC one time but she um... had some, well ummmm... difficulties yeah, with her SCUBA gear on the way to Bayjin.

Poor thing.... <sniff>

I never use any RPCs for anything, even now that i'm only running trios and smaller. They suck up XP and have been developed mostly wrong for the levels they had when you get to them. And they won't go everywhere--or are pains if you "trick" them.

4. ""trick""
My editor could help "tricking" them, so they are no more pain! ;)

5. "RE: Who Needs Vi?"
The "won't go everywhere" / "pains if you 'trick' them" complaints I agree with. In Vi's case, though her points may not be precisely where you want them, she has 435 attribute points as a level 6 character:

Strength 68
Intelligence 50
Piety 70
Vitality 70
Dexterity 58
Speed 63
Senses 50

That's equivalent to 405 attribute points for a level 1 character. Compare that with a standard starting level 1 Human, which gets 375, the most attribute points of any race, and she's a whopping 4 Ankh's worth ahead!

Her points are definitely spread around (note that nothing is less than 50 or more than 70). So she won't max any specific attribute faster than your own PC-created Valkyrie that puts the max allowed bonus points in and 3/level every level after that. But she will have far fewer weaknesses overall than a PC-created Valkyrie, and typically more stamina due to her high Piety and Vitality.
