"Missing and praying"
All right then, spoil me: What the benifit of praying? ;)

Another question: If a party member is swallowed, can you flee the scene - and if you can, what happens ?

1. "Pray for the Missing "
Prayer (in my experience) doesn't do much good (in Wiz 8). I never have liked random effects .. I want to know: "when I cast x, y will happen" ...

Missing (swallowed) folks can only be retrieved by killing the monster that swallowed them. I am not sure if you get their dead body back (from not killing the monster soon enough) can be resurrected.

Praying uwsually results in a random buff cast.
Swallowed party members remain missing, and can be lost forever, if you don't kill the swallowing beast.

Thank for the answers.

I have only tried praying at low levels, and a random guardian angel or a blessing at the same spell-level or lower than I could cast......only worth trying when out of spell-points. I just wanted to know if you could get something worth while - perhaps at higher level? I always forget to try it, when I have a high level party.

About swallowing: I once ran into 3 swallowers and 3 cultists when I already had 3 dead and was low on everything (Ironman). I tried to escape, had 1 more killed on the run, but came close to the "border". Just before my turn, one of the remaining members was swallowed, and I quit (cursing!). Then I wondered if I could have escaped, resurrected and healed up - and then find the swallower waiting for me - or if it disappears after a while like all other monsters.

you'd have to level up quite a bit to tackle one swallower, and even more with 3, unless you can lure them into an enclosed area and fight dirty. also advised to get some help if you can.

Sometimes prayer gets you "pennies from heaven" (100 gold) or healing. I think I may once have had a dead character come to life.

Prayer can have many random results. Guardian Angel, Buffs, healing, stamina, gold, and even attack spells.

My level 1 party who thought they were tough enough for the softshells got a nice answer to a fervent prayer, the last crab torturing an already nearly dead group was struck dead itself.

I've had groups get a "blessing from the gods" that resulted in Armorplate, Missile Shield, and Enchanted Blade I think it was at a level when it can not normally be cast so sometimes its fairly impressive.

Praying has always helped me when I was desperate. I've gotten shield spells, magic attacks, death to opponents, etc. The key I think is to wait until you really need them. I think praying also helps your piety skill...but not positive.

It's good you're not positive. Please instead realise the alternative. The only way to increase Piety is to place points there when you level.
