"Wizardry Staff Rift"
Perhaps it's common knowledge somewhere, but what actually kicked off D.W. Bradley leaving Sir-Tech? Wiz7 did alright I think... seems a little odd to jump ship like that..taking staff members such as Chris Appel with him. It's one thing for a designer to split...but taking artists with you? The whole thing is wierd.
His new game looks pretty good, but what happened to the plot? In Bane, an artifact which can create fate it stolen... wizards are split in half.. demons are sired....very cool plot. In W&W, yeah..umm... there's this magic sword....I'm getting "save the princess" flashbacks.

Anyhow...anyone in the know?

Snafaru has a couple blurbs on his site about the split with the original Wiz guys - Trebor and Werdna. If I remember correctly, they are mini-interviews with the actual guys.

As for the *weak* ploy in W&W, I read the same thing in every interview/preview/review of the game. But really (we've covered this partially before) if you boil it down far enough, (almost) every story has the same plot. You are the good guys and you have to acquire some ultimate artifact to beat the bad guy - name that story You should be able to guess it in the first 5,000 tries

Duh, forgot I was making a point (or at least had more to say ...)
But, once you just paste the cut-and-paste plot and get into the details and the story, many take on a life of their own (books and games).

Sword of Shanarra - I originally thought of Wiz 7 (duh ), but then thought this one was better suited as an example, since it revolved around a sword as well.
