"Let's Play Wizardry 6 & 7 (My YouTube and GameVee videos)"
LAST EDITED ON Nov-11-08 AT 04:20 AM (Pacific)

(since this thread is relevant to both W6 and W7 I'm posting it here as well as on the W7 board)

I'm a newcomer to the Wizardry series who just wanted to take the opportunity to plug my ongoing Wizardry 7 playthrough at YouTube and GameVee (as well as my finished playthrough of W6, also available on YT/GV).

As previously mentioned, I'm very inexperienced (not only when it comes to Sir-Tech's games but any serious CRPG gaming prior to Baldur's Gate) and am relying heavily on walkthroughs to A) know where I'm supposed to be going next and B) solving W7's insanely obscure puzzles. I'm learning as I go along and some of my character development choices seem highly questionable in hindsight. As is evident from the first couple of videos, I initially had a really hard time getting anywhere at all and had almost given up hope completely before things finally started working noticeably better for me.

All that being said, ever since I got past the first 10 hours or so I've had a lot of fun with the game and will hopefully continue to enjoy the experience and upload more videos. One obvious goal with the YouTube recordings is to reach out to people who haven't played W6 & W7 before and get them interested in a game which is ultimately much more entertaining and rewarding (in my opinion) than most CRPGs released these days.

For those interested in checking out the videos (and perhaps contributing with some expert advice which might benefit the ongoing playthrough), they're available at

I loved Wizardry 6 when it came out. The story was interesting to me, the monsters looked cool for its day & it was the first Wizardry when they would move. I am not all that experienced at CRPG either, but I must confess to loving Wizardry 7 best of all. It is certainly not as high tech as Wiz 8 (since they waited 10 years and used the latest technology), but the overall story is very good and I even enjoy the sub-stories. Most important to me however is that I would estimate game play at about 3 times as long as it takes to finish Wiz 8. Certainly, it's not for those who like short term games, but to me it is the best $20 I ever spent!

idk if you really wanted advice on the characters, but I will throw some out that probably applies to both Wiz 6 & 7 in my opinion. Thieves do unlock doors and chests better than anyone else, but I don't think they are very good in either of those games. I would avoid Fighters, too, and take a Lord and/or Valkyrie instead because they get healing spells. In Wiz 7 there seems to be a glitch where Fighters appear to me to actually take double damage from close range attacks. On the plus side, this is also true (it seems) for the monsters who are classified as fighters . While Fighters do get the most hit points, this is a huge handicap to overcome. In Wiz 8, Fighters and Thieves are both very good classes. They were redone in a really good fashion - but that is a discussion for another board.

I'd also avoid Faeries. Their 2 point armor class bonus is pretty worthless given the almost non-existent armor they can actually use. Their diminished carrying capacity is also a real hindrance later in the game as you get more things. But other than that, if you take any 6 different classes and 6 different races, you can do very well with most anyone. I admit I did a lot of switching professions in Wiz 7 so everyone could get the Hide in Shadows skill - particularly useful against some of the Gorrors and the machines guarding the final tomb. But you don't have to do that by any means. Keep having fun & I will check out your videos - thanks!

A.J.
