"Question...?"
LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-00 AT 07:02 AM (Pacific)

I've been thinking about getting W&W and what to know what the specs are. What hardware does one need to run the game (ie 3d accelleration, processor speed, HD space). the reason I'm asking is at the moment all I got is a Gateway laptop with a 4-gig HD, 64 megs ram, and a PII at 300-333 i think. any response would be great.

Thanks in advance
Joebob (METS IN 2001)

Also whats a good price to wait for?

1. "You've got the system"
I have a 'low-end' system (P II/ 266 Mhz/ 64MB RAM) and it runs ok on my system. As for price, it's all what it is worth to you. Judging by the going rate on Ebay (around $15-20), I would guess a lot of people don't feel it is worth full retail.

2. "The box says..."
233 MHz
64 MB Ram
W 95 / 98
32 bit drivers for CD, Vid, sound and input devices.
740 MB space on HD plus 140 MB for swap files.
(Full install is about 1.2 Gig !!!)
4X spinner
Direct X 7.0a compliant video card.
(I must say that the game has a software mode that works just fine for most people)

There are a coulple of players on this board that are running at or right about these requirements.
Seems to work for them. Not too sure about the lap top though. Quirky things that they can be. Your greatest limiting factor may be your HD size. This game will consume about 25% of it.

Heck, give it a try. You can always return it.

$30.00 is a reasonable price.

I'm running:

450 MHz
128 MB RAM
Software mode.
A little jerky here and there but otherwise just fine.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I think i'll try it if it's got a software only mode, when the price is right.

Thanks again for the information.

Side note: Wish they made 3d accelerators for laptops.

5. "Was that a comparative statement :?"
For me (and from what I've heard from others) there is not much difference between software and hardware modes, and actually for me, hardware mode was really blurry when it displayed text.

6. "RE: The Software mode looks terrible. NT."
I found the D3D mode(s) to be dark and very green when in the crypts or underground. When I was at the Toad Village I thought, "green", well that fits. Finding the same green hue in the Crypt I thought there must be something better and sure enough going to software mode brought out the intended colors (IMO) of the crypt. It is a little bit jerky here and there, but I am enjoying the game more.
