"Hard to believe it's been almost 20 years..."
... since Bane! I played it on my Amiga, and that was that, Wiz7 never came out for that old turd of a computer. Talked with Sergey (cool guy, thanks again for the help!) but was unable to transfer my original party. oh well. Played it again recently and recreated my original characters (in DosBox), and finally found out about the multiple endings. I had to kill Bella tho...

That's my first Q: befriending Bella was the best ending, wasn't it?

oh well... I'm starting to figure this out. My ending set me up as allies of the damn T'rang even tho I NEVER entered Nyctalinth. I had real problems as Rossarian wouldn't deal with me and I was attacked on sight in Ukpyr. I spent all night last night raising Rossarians attitude towards me from -100 (gah!) and made it to -3, now I can trade, but he still won't deal with my Mook (the diplomat). At least I was able to join up in Ukpyr, and that's where my save is at presently.

Main thing I'm worried about is this, I was *forced* into killing Gruntwrapper, he wouldn't leave me alone, and I unknowingly saved one square away from his location, so he was there at every re-loading of the game.

Will killing him hang me up later?

Well, thanks to everyone involved for the great editors (WizEdit and the Cosmic Forge Editor) and these forums, I was blown away to find them, even cooler to see how active they are!

Thanks!
Stein

Befriending Bella, yes, but you had to start early: not believing the Queen's story and not equipping the Silver Cross led to an ending where you didn't have to fight the Bane King. Then you could fly with Bella to somewhere near the Dane Tower and Poppy Field. I think it was the easiest start and most fitting to the party development: buy some goodies at the tower and then sleep through the field and go on to New City.

I know the Umpani and T'Rang beginnings, but I never played very far. So I'm surprised to see that you became enemy to the other, since normally you can join both without penalty.

If you are still friendly with the Umpani, killing one wandering NPC isn't critical to the game.

"Geez" And I already answered.

At least from my experience there seem to be difficulties in joining the Umpani if you start the game near Nyctalinth (and killing Bella in Wiz6). I entered Ukpyr by force, facing attacks by Umpani guardians every approach(2-3 fights every time without the opportunity to save in between) and entering any building means more fights.
I had no encounter with any Umpani NPC before (as to meet Rodan you have to use the Warhammer Ukpyr to NewCity), so i couldn't make any friendly conversations so far.
Now running into every Ukpyr-house with pulled out Muramasa-blade doesn't seem to improve much.
I stopped my Ukpyr-stroll when it came to enter General Yamo's headquarter, as he has the bomb to destroy the T'Rang eggs. first point was that i couldn't get through to him (battles too hard), second point that finally kept me away from trying once more was that i didn't want to kill him. Because of that the eggs under Nyctalinth still block my way, and finally i'm stuck.
Leaving the editing aside, from my experience i'm not sure how to get into friendly states with the Umpani while playing this plot. if there's a way, please let me know, but hints like "just try & talk etc." doesn't help out, as my party doesn't even get any try.
I think i have to restart Wiz6 again (probably i find the time when i'm retired), because i don't like the idea to leave Ukpyr as a hole in my maps, just stopping at the main portals from both sides.

I assume Yamo will drop the Thermal Pineapple if killed, since NPC:s are programmed to do that.

Yeah, i know...i shouldn't be such a wimp As there will be an orbital attack Yamo will be gone anyway, but my major problem is that as Umpani-arch-enemy i just can't enter the headquarter because of the heavy fights at the door.
Even by switching to "easy mode" there are two-three rounds with some sophisticated Umpani-warriors (don't know their English name, playing Wiz in German).
Geting into the space-port barrack to find the coordinates for their space-ship was quite hard and all that saved me was the Muramasa-blade that survived the export from Wiz6 to Wiz7.
By the way, i didn't submit the code to this T'Rang hiding in the forest i just kicked him out (of Lost Guardia).
The main problem in this plot are the fights in Ukpyr. While playing the normal plot you arrive there after Munkharama (i would suggest) and it is a quite relaxing trail & training there.
Entering as an enemy is horrible as you stumble into Umpani-armies every third step and even having removed the bulk of soldiers from the main portals, you will face another when you enter the city the next time.
Coming back to the main topic: i don't see much fun in playing this plot (better is to kick the spiders as in Nyctalinth they will attack you anyway) and concerning my problem i think i have to wander the forests and the wide sea to get the stamina to just push in.

Sooooo, conclusion (or my experience): play Wiz6 once more, save the lifes of the noblesses and Bella, and be a good Umpani-recruit in Wiz7. And isn't that the way to get the diamond-ring from Bella to get all the four hightech-items in the City of Sky?! On more point!
And when this is done, i finally will head for the final mission at Wiz8.

Another possibility: Do you have a save from before the endgame. Transferring it to W7 will lead you to the forest outside New City, to same place where new parties start. (Well, I used to have several disks with Bane savegames on them.)

yeah, I started a new game yesterday with my imported characters from bane (after killing Bella). I wanted to see what the Umpani attitude towards me was before doing anything. Without even taking one step after the intro ended I saved and checked my attitude with the CosmicForge Editor... -80! So no wonder I had problems.

I didn't even want to think about starting (yet) again, so I noticed you can bribe Rossarian into a pleased reaction when trying to make peace. Problem is he can still attack you even if he is pleased! But I kept at it, and found that with enough patience (LOL) you CAN get a pleased reaction AND get him to leave you without fighting... it was rare and seemed to happen only once in about 20 reloads... but after checking attitude I found that it went up about 11 or 12 points!

...after an hour or two (LOL) I was able to make -3 and peace at last.
