"Wine"
I'm trying to install Wizardry 8 onto my SUSE Linux computer using Wine. The Setup runs fine, but when I am done installing I get the following error message under my Wine terminal:
errle:CoGetClassObject class {fbf23b40-e3f0-101b-8488-00aa003e56f8} not registered
errle:CoGetClassObject no class object {fbf23b40-e3f0-101b-8488-00aa003e56f8} could be created for context 0x1
Then, whenever I try to run Wizardry 8 the computer thinks for a minute, the screen flashes briefly, and then nothing, no error message nothing. It lookes like this:
andrew3@(none):~> wine "c:\program files\Sirtech\Wizardry 8\Wiz8.EXE"
andrew3@(none):~>

Does anyone know what is going on here? I read somewhere in this forum that Wiz 8 should work fine with Wine.

Having no Linux or Wine experience, I am guessing that the "disc 3 in the CD drive" check is failing.

So can you run ANY windows program using this Wine thing ?

Yes, I managed to run the Setup program, and you can run Sol solitaire. I don't know if it's just checking for the CD because if on Windows you try to play Wizardry without CD 3 in there a message comes up saying that you need to insert the correct CD, but on Linux I get nothing

Get the nocd patch by your friendly cracker in the neighbourhood, if you can locate it. Such a hassle! Makes you wonder what Sir-Tech was thinking when they went out of their way to make their game inaccessible to legitimate customers, rendering it effectively non-backupable and not future-proof in any way.

There's hints and instructions how to run Wizardry 8 in Wine here (very old version of Wine, from 2003):

Worked for me a couple of years ago, but I haven't bothered since a while.
