"Aborting fights in Iron Man"

Hey there,

after beating the game several times, I've turned my attention to the Iron Man-Mode, which is definitely more thrilling than a normal game.

One odd thing occurs, though: I am able to abort a fight and quit to the main menue by just pressing the escape-button. Then I can reload the game and can re-fight the fight. This is useful, because a party-wipeout due to bad luck is no longer possible. On the other hand, it destroys the meaning of the Iron Man-Mode.

Is this a bug or a feature? When pressing Escape, a message is shown in the text-box like "Can't abort, enemies engaged".

Best regards
Kuli

As I recall, when you reload, the fight will start immediately. If you are up against a superior enemy, they can wipe you out every time. Reloads won't matter that much.

My preferred method of avoiding wipeouts in Iron Man Mode is something I call Aluminum Man. I make a copy of the save game before I start an Iron Man session. If I get wiped out, I copy the backup file into the savegame area and restart from that save point.

Iron Man is a state of mind and only works if you are honest. If escape worries you, don't hit escape.

Sorry, I was on holidays, that's why I didn't reply earlier.

Your comment about the superior enemy is true, but lots of battles depend on your tactics and your luck (one backfire can change the outcome). For those fights, a restart is very useful! Furthermore, the "run"-option is available, as long as the party does not get surrounded.

Still, Iron Man is a state of mind, you're right there. Maybe I should check my attitude

Best regards Kuli

I'm pretty sure that you can actually evade some fights by holding down the directional keys before the graphics load. I'm pretty sure if you keep escaping and doing that, you'll eventually be free from automatically engaging the enemy.
