I've beaten the game a couple times now, with and without mods, but I've never really focused on a ranged party and I haven't experimented with the gadgeteer. This will also be my first game on expert difficulty. That being said, I don't want to get halfway into the game and realize my party can't cut it, so please post any advice you may have on my general strategy/development plans. The Party -
Mook Ninja - going mook over hobbit for resistances. Finding the special eq for a ninja has always given me a rough time, so resistances are important. For weapons, I plan on using the defiler's knife and boomerang shurikens, or that other weird circle shuriken if I can find it. For close range, the amazing swords you find in Mt. Gigas in the covert area.
Hobbit Gadgeteer - This is the character I'm not really sure about. Since I'm going with a very light party magically speaking, and I've never really used a gadgeteer, I'm wondering if he has gadgets for the essential spells, like haste, soul shield, elemental shield, magic screen, etc? Obviously I'll be using his gun for his primary weapon. He'll also be in charge of traps. Since I'm running the latest patch, I'm not too worried about pickpocketing.
(?) Ranger - Thinking of going with a mook ranger, but am open to suggestions. I'm not too experienced with rangers either, so any advice on weapons would be welcome. I'm split between developing his bow skills, or going for the blunderbuss (this is the best modern weapon, correct?). For weapons, I'll probably end up using The Sender axe. Axes seem to be fairly good in Flame's mod.
Things I'm worried about:
Carrying Capacity - All the ammo is going to weigh a lot, will a three person party be able to shoulder that load without pouring vast amounts into str?
RPCs - I'm not a big fan of RPCs, the main reason I want such a small party is to get more experience per fight and really be able to develop each character, especially with how high ninja xp costs are. I'm sure I'll be caught in melee a bit, and I'm not sure if not having a real true-blooded meat shield will hurt me. I don't want to cheese it up, but I'm thinking of taking a level as a thief for stealth training.
Magic - again the magic issue, will alchemy and gadget's be enough to cover me? Not too worried about the offensive aspect, but what does worry me is being able to cast defensive spells for those hard fights vs casters.
Anyways, thanks for your replies and advice in advanced.
