"I am on to your game "snafaru"" LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-05 AT 00:11 AM (Pacific) I went to our web site, and read your conspiracy theory (why is it we seem like we have more than our share of conspiracy theories? Of course, that in itself could probably be viewed as a consipiracy theory But I digress ...) After reading your analysis, it sounded oddly familiar ... in that same vein of Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind Then, I put the pieces together: Snafaru is an anagram for "A Rus Fan" .. it is all co clear now p.s. Thundarr started in the 1980-1981 season, so seems unlikely it would have been out in time to to become popular (at least with the Wizardry developers) and leave them enough time to incorporate characters from it in Wiz 1. Maybe it is the other way around, the Thundarr characters got names from Wizardry p.p.s Ookla always reminded me of "Kookla" of Kookla, Fran and Ollie ... at least in name. "RE: I am on to your game "snafaru"" LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-05 AT 07:47 AM (Pacific) Hi Llevram, The name Snafaru came by accident, I just mispelled something and stuck with it since I was then sure no-one else was using that handle From the link on my site "...on millions of television sets in the late 1977 when 'Thundarr the Barbarian' premiered"... so it was out before Wizardry, or the idea or talks about it was out before Wizardry... most likely, probably, but who knows for sure? Personnaly I never saw it since it wasn't shown in Canada I think, but I'm sure some of us old enough would remember, I was a teenager when Wiz came out. Also, interesting is the site of the creators of Thundarr the Barbarian here: http://www.rubyspears.com/ And it's freakish to see the action figure look exactly like a Mook! Maybe we could ask guys from both clans who stole who's idea... can you spell lawsuit now? Snafaru EDIT: ok, reading the game text and thinking more about it now, the Wiz guys had to take their inspiration somewhere, and I bet what's written is what the character on the show said... and think about it, why didn't it show in other release of Wiz 1 but the Apple version... probably because they were stepping on someone's toes...   Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

The Ruby/Spears site you reference: (and the "bible": imdb.com) say it was 1980-1981. And personally, I think Chewbacca looks more like a Mook ... Ookla has fangs And if you think about it, Star Wars came out before Thundarr ... guy with a light sword, hot chick, sasquatch-like companion ... so, when Thundarr was riped off from Star Wars, the origin of the Mook now dates back to Star Wars/Chewbacca. LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-05 AT 08:46 AM (Pacific) (I know you were joking, I just let know how that name came about) You are right about the Mook's looks being based on Star Wars' Chewbacca. The creators of Thundarr started their company out in 1977, so maybe the idea was out there before the 1980-81 show season, just maybe. Anyways, they did many projects as you can see on their web site. Now concentrate on Thundarr's "Mok" race and Wizardry's "Mook" race, that just can't be a coincidence, someone got inspired here in terms of race naming, not to mention that the creatures in all 3 worlds have basically the same sentient description. Just two days ago at work, we were going over a new web page that listed folk's by their internal email nickname ... one of which is ... yes, "mook". This guy though, has no clue what wizardy is, but is a fan of baseball .. Mookie Wilson. So maybe they took Mok and Mookie, decided Mookie would sound too much like monkey, and shortened it to Mook. Another guy at work has a good saying, regarding coincedence: Once is happenstance. Twice is coincedence. Three times is enemy fire. An american inventor named "Moog" invented an early synthesizer (I think back in the 60's), which sounded a bit like quacking and was named after him. Maybe D.W.Bradley intended to give the Mooks such a voice and was inspired by the Moog.
