"elven bow, is it worth it"
Im creating a party to start bane(since i finally got DOsbox to work) and to carry thru to Dominus. Question is is the Elven worth it in 8. I know bows are garbage in 6 and 7 but were crucial in 8. My issue is whether i should make my samurai an ELf or keep him as my usual Felpurr. Ill make him a ELf if the Elven bow is worth it, but im attached to playing with a Flepurr. Its been bout 12 years and its hard to change.Especially the one i just made. I rolled him with a 26! I didnt think one could roll that high. My previous high was 23-24.

So is the bow worth it in 8 to warrant an Elf samurai? Thanks.

1. "It Was For Me, Many Times"
I like the Elven Bow, and i imported a few various Elves to use it with. My favorite, though, was a Ranger--mostly for the added Kill chance as i had her wield the Bow only. The Bow would be kinda wasted on a Sam in 8, what with the lovely Swords you can get. A Sam in 7 will import well for Ranger, but have the wrong Magic Skills--just change Class before you import, and make sure you have 100 in Alchy and the Realms to get the best start in W-8. Also, start W-8 at L1 and take your free levels once you hit the beach--your first spawns will be easier. And if the bow doesn't import, try rearranging your load a bit, maybe dropping some other high-value items...

2. "take two"
if you're starting out in bane you can get two elven bows, one from bane and one from crusaders. the bow is noticeably fast, accurate and deadly compared to other bows in my opinion. made me go back and start a party with elven ranger and samauri to play through.

of course it would be hard to give up a 26 roll felpurr though...

3. "RE: take two"
Thanks for the replys.

The reason for the Samurai is that i wanted the bow so he could get the 15 speed when equiped. The question turns to whether the 15 speed is given when the bow is equipped as a secondary weapon. ANyone know the answer? I wouldnt waste a Samurai on a Bow as a primary weapon. But With the 15 speed and the ability to reek havoc from a distance from a secondary weapon is definetly worth creating an Elf Samurai. May even change my Dwarf Valkeryi into an ELf to get the second one.

So can someone tell me if the 15 is applied as a secondary weapon? Thanks

4. "RE: take two"
Bad news: This speed bonus will apply ONLY when your character have the bow really equipped (using it right now), when he is in melee and "equipped" another weapon, this bonus will NOT be applied.

5. "Regeneration"
Don't forget, too, that the Elven Bow gives +1 regeneration while it is equipped. There is really no question: it is worth it.

pretty nice, just be sure to swap to it after battle, to get the HP regen and speed (in case you get attacked, better chance of striking first)

7. "Lock it in place"
Just hit the lock under the weapons selector so it's always armed. Unless you run out of arrows, there's not much reason to use anything else, except maybe Light or Olivia.

Wow, I just looked in editor and saw that this bow is unattainable in W8.
The problem, is the editor does not show special itme appearings, such as creating by smiths and few other cases (canezou items, for example). So I cannot be sure.

Is it attainable in W8?

According to those with more knowledge than I, no: the Elven Bow(s) is(are) available only by import.

actually, you're right, the question was valid, even though it was clear in the context of the original question that the poster knew you had to import Elven Bow...sorry...

You can use my editor to patch the game, so your rolls will have higher chance to make a character with maximum bonus: 26

12. "RE: elven bow, is it worth it"
Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it.

Ill stick with my 26 Roll Felpurr since the benefits of the bow are only when it is used. He reeked havoc in 8 my first time thru. Demonsbane Bow worked well for him.

Mad i may use this editor your talking about. I rolled my Felpurr Samurai rather quickly with a 26. Now im having a bear of a time trying to get my beloved Fariae Ninja. I get 18 all day long but not a single point above.

A new question. Is there a limit to super roll characters? Meaning if i get one with a 24-26 roll does that limit my other characters to 18 or less? Or should just continue rolling until i get the points required for the ninja, either free rolling or by edittor? I understand it takes a while sometimes, but damn im itching to start Bane.

Thanks again to all.
Nosferatu.

Your right! just scored a 25 point fary ninja. Im off to finally start Bane for the very first time. Hopefully it does not turn out no were near as difficult as Crusaders was the first few times i played.

BTW i kept my Felpurr Sam but switched my Dwarf Valk into an Elf so i can check out this Elven Bow. I have never used an ELf, hopefully she doesnt disappoint.

Thanks again people.

The very first level-up is the hardest, IMO. Prepare for several frustrating battles, in which a bunch of rats bites half of the party to death. Now, talking about realism...

As you've spent plenty of time rolling the high numbers I assume that you won't class change?

19. "No class change for me."
I have already been smashed by these bats you speak off. Also by some lizard looking things. I was like damn. I consider myself a veteran of sorts in these "newer" Wizardry games but damn, these battles are tough. The BS part is that you cant end the battle. You have to either run away or get demolished before you can reload. That sux.

No i dont class change. My characters stay as what they started. They will stay the same class until they ascend.

If curious here is my party. The only thing ive changed was a couple of races. No more lizardman and dwarf. Switched to human and elf respectively. Also i started my fighter as a lord this time.

Human Lord
Felpurr Samurai
Farie Ninja
Elf Valkaryie
Rawulf Bishop
Farie Bishop

With this party, why class change. They proved to be very distructive in both Wiz 7 and 8.

Thanks for the tip, ill stay away from The towers with thoose vampire bats until i gained a level or two.
