"New Contest - Item Design"

LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-04 AT 03:54 PM (Pacific) by Llevram (admin)

I am very excited about this one folks! I have seen some very good imaginations at work in the posts. People coming up with new thoughts for items and quests that were very intriguing. After viewing several items in the Wizardry 8 graphics database with an SLF viewer I thought it would be great to give those imaginations a chance to shine.

Contest details are posted on my site:

www.flamestryke.com/wizardry8/flamestrykes_w8.html

Select the Contest Index from the left margin and then Item Design Contest.

Good luck to all who decide to enter!

(Editor's note: Changed instructions to read "Contest Index", rather than "Quest Index")

Edit: Thank you! I just realized my faux pas!

YOWIE !!!

I had no idea so much stuff was in there !!!

So ... how do we modify the game database to point to these items ??? Not necessarily create new items, just change the picture of an existing item ?

So the Shadow Cloak doesn't look exactly like the Cape oF Stealth for example. Or a cure disease potion doesn't look like cure lesser condition. That would be useful when your alchemist is in a potion-mixing frenzy.

I am going to get some screen dumps so I can study these overnight and write up some coherent speculation.

... isn't it supposed to be a secret, who posts them until after the voting?

There are quite a few good ones out there so far, and it is early in the competition. Are people coming out swinging, using their best material? Or are they testing the waters, holding something back for the last minute submission (like sniping on eBay)

Time will tell ...

They better not snipe too long. I am only a one woman show here and if the entries are going up in time for voting too many last minute shoppers are gonna miss the bargins.

I'm sorry to announce that the voting will not happen on the dates originally planned. Due to my bout of appendicitis, the hospital stay, operation, and now the development of a severe bout of bronchitis I have not been able to get the voting forms ready as yet.

I am not going to set a voting date at this time since I am unsure just how long I will be incapacitated. If my lung condition does not improve by Tuesday I may be returning to the hospital for a time. I will work toward completing the forms as I can and post a new voting date when they are completed and tested.

I apologize for the delay. New entries will be accepted but may not get posted as quickly as before.

I agree with Scary, take care of yourself first. Any voting can wait until you are better.

Since most items only received one or two entries all have been declared winners! Too much work to set up voting forms when most entries would win by default for being the only entry anyway.

Check out the new Unused Item Menu under the Item Index to view all entries, quests, and the forms where new entries can be made. Yes, I am still taking entries, I am enjoying reading them too much to close this out. I hope everyone else enjoys them as much as I do.

... it's like kid's soccer then? So, where are the trophies and ice cream/pizza party

Seriously, that sounds fine ... and since we aren't voting, we should be able to reveal who wrote what now, right?

Already done. Each page bears the name of its creator. The cat is out of the bag so to speak. If any one spots an entry without a name let me know. I could have a missed one....
