"General Wiz 8"
Just wondering--has anyone actually won/finished Wizardry 8 in
normal or expert mode.
I can usually get to, in or generally around Trynton for the first time (either doing Arnika to Gigas to Trynton or just Arnika to Trynton). No matter what I do, how beefed my characters are, I usually get trounced so badly that I have to switch to novice for the rest of the game, just to finish.
Just wondering if I'm just a douff or is the only way to finish
normal or expert by using edit codes and cheats?

I usually play in expert mode myself. Some tips that might help. Take advantage of terrain, any way you can get the monsters to come at you one or two at a time rather than surronding you party improves your chances. Buffing spells help you both to fight and defend against attack, Enchanted Blade, Armorplate, Missle Shield and Magic Screen are your BEST friends learn them early and keep them up. In battle a good general purpose spell is Bless. X-ray and Cameleon help you to dodge foes you don't want to meet. When in doubt, bug out, you do NOT have to fight every battle sometimes running away can save you skin. Stay in areas where you can get help from the locals, Arnika, Trynton, Marten's Bluff, and Mt Gigas give you additional allies to fight for you and take some of the monsters arrention from you. Hope this helps you in your quest.

ONce I beat it on normal, I cracnked it up to expert (and have finished it probably 7-8 times). I have flushed some parties and single character attempts.

It does get difficult at times, but you should learn from the difficulties, trying different strategies, tactics, etc.

And, despite my history and reputation, I have not edited my Wiz 8 games

Also remember some areas are tough, too tough for "fresh meat". If an area is getting to hard to survive in, back off, and try another direction and come back later. New characters just can't expect to be able to walk up to a level 20 monster, tear it's leg off, and beat it to death with the bloody stump, it ain't gonna happen (more like the other way around actually!).

Be assured that almost any party combination can progress in the game and win, just take it slow and steady.
