"Finally made it to Arnika"
I decided before Xmas to update my Windows to 98SE. Guess what? It totally would not let me play any of my saved games from about six months ago...hey I been going to college fulltime, so Wizardry 8 takes a backseat.

Well anywho...had to uninstall...then reinstall, then reroll all my characters. Now, they are back to where they should have been before and I have finally made it to Arnika without dying too many times, then reloading to see if I do better.

So now what?? I hate to follow a walkthru, but now what do I need to do here.

Blessed Be~

Well, the big thing is to talk to everyone who will listen to you. Explore every inch of Arnika. Then go do something else. Sounds simple.

Really Lady A, that is what you need to do in Arnika, what you would expect.

Do talk to Myles and He'li. I would rescue Vi and recruit her, then talk to the locals (for the Exp points), then drop her if you don't want to keep her in your party.

As to paths from Arnika ...

1) You can return to the Monastery to get the good vs. Demon weapons. If not now, when are you closer to the monastery? At this point, can you get your hands on a better bow or sword (aside from the sword you can get in Arnika, following Myle's jobs).

2) The Trynton path - via the cemetary. Retro Dungeon may need to wait a few levels.

or

2) Towards the Umpani (stopping off at the caves storing weapons caches - near hogars.

3. "RE: Good advice"
Have talked to Myles, although I have not recruited him yet. I was walking around Arnika running into random battles slowing gaining experience for my characters. I think they are all level 7 by now.

As for the monestary...I have done everything but the room at the top of the lift and the garden area with the poisonous seekers...my characters keep expiring. I hate mages...they always die off first.

Is the bank usable for depositing money or should I just hold on to it? I have alot of money as I haven't bought anything except better armour.

I guess I will go get Bela now. Chat at you all later. This is my last day of playing for a bit, as I have to head back to school tomorrow...RATS!

4. "Mage dead? Rez him!"
I don't know if you already know it, but in Wiz8 dying isn't penalized, a char who dies and is resurrected doesn't lose any stats (afaik). Since there are some resurrection powders to be found in the monestary, you mustn't abandon a fight where a single char dies (as in previous wizardries, unless you didn't care about the losses )

Just a tip I wish I had read when I started wiz8

5. "Dearie..."
I have been playing the Wizardry for a LONG LONG LONG time.

*counts the rings around her like a tree*

I was playing this game when it first came out back in the early 80's. I was 18 and doing all night gaming with my friends...*waxing nostalgic here*! So I am no novice...in fact I still have Wizardry 1-5 on Apple format and have the Aplle IIC to play them with...everything still works great.

That is not what I was complaining about...I was complaining about his crappy hit points. You can only bring someone back so many times...until you are broke or out of potions. That is why there is "reload" and "reload".

By the way, rescued Vi...went and looked at the BIG TOWER...and headed back to the monestary to see if I can get into that garden and do som more exploring.

Blessed Be~

8. "My Dear"
Point is I had played the older Wizadries as well, I never gave resurrecting much thought in Wiz8, since I thought it would cost a point of vitality. When I discovered it doesn't hurt more than adding a counter on your personal sheet i was really surprised.

For me, being an oldie in the Wizardry world didn't help (rather the contrary) in resurrection issues, that was why I wanted to help.

Oh and if you play a Wiz7 import you can start in a place where you can get resurrects for free (virtually).

My Apple II hasn't been out of the cellar since many years, and I doubt that my floppies would still work with it, but i still remember the feeling of power when i got my second floppy drive (copying without changing floppies! yeah!), or the 16K RAM card.

I'm still curious about the rings around you though... are they around your hips? Maybe too many sweets for Christmas?

10. "RE: My Dear"
I never worried about resurrection in Wizardry before...including seven. I thought about bringing my party over from Wiz7, but since I am only a quareter of the way through...I figured rerolling with new characters would be about the same as where I am in with Wiz7. If anyone dies...I just reload and try again from a different angle until I get it right. Sometimes the reason characters die...is that they are not at the level they need to be to fight that character.

I have like 3 sets of Wizardry1, because I had a copy and the ex-spouse had a copy and the guy we bought the second Apple IIC had a set. I use the Apple for keeping records, so it has to be working grand...besides I play my Wizardrys on it, My King's Quest, Bard's Tale, and other fun games.

11. "Importing"
If you plan to do wiz8 a second time, you might try an import. Some chars behave differently if your party is imported, so it's a fun twist.

12. "Sounds like we are doing much the same thing"
I too am exploring Dominus with a W8-created party while simultaneously bringing another party through an earlier chapter, which someday I hope to import. (However, my party is still in Bane, so they have a long way to go to catch up to their alter-egos on Dominus.)

I love the game-play of W8, and think it would be great if someone re-engineered Bane and CODS with the same engine, graphics, etc.

7. "In arnika"
You know that loading scene? It, like I think every other one, is a clue to something to do in that scene. Search (in the halls) under Braffit's temple.

Also, giving him a paper you can acquire in the monastery, will cause him to give a (not really helpful) clue.

Hey now! My daughter is in the fourth grade...she speaks and types better than that.

That is one of those new ways to talk online...makes people think you are an idiot. Well it works...I just ignored that message.

Computer Eubonics...yucky!

And I am being nice Llevram...but that was not someone who was from another country. They at least show a better grasp of the language and at least attempt to spell correctly and they don't use the word damn all the time either.

<English major here>

No worries! Me, I am particular about spelling in most venues but am of the mindset that i-net verbage should more accurately reflect actual word usage and expression, to yield a more personal tone... (gee now warn't that eloquent??)
