"Ingame character updates"
I noticed that when character gains a new level he does not improve his resistance. the same applies for monks & ninjas when they get AC bonus due to increase of ninjutsu skill.

The cure for that is simple: reequip your character! After each level up and time to time.

4. "Try renaming it"
... then deleting it. If that doesn't work, you could boot up in DOS and delete it.

8. "Not the DOS prompt ... DOS"
Rather than booting in Windows, boot up to DOS, then delete it. Depending on your version of windows, that may or may not be feasible (and/or require a boot disk).
