"Small Parties"
In the vein of Wizardry 8 and taking a solo character through that game, I thought it might be fun to take a party of two (That's the minimum in Bane) all the way through the Marathon to the other side. I'd tried once before and had gotten as far as the Isle of the Damned before losing the game to the dreaded Reformat of Doooooooom. Say it with me now, "Of dooooooooooooooooooooooom."

Anyway, my party then consisted of a Lord and a Samurai, and they'd gotten to the point where they knew pretty much all of the spells, and gaining experience by then was not much of a problem. Now, of course, I had the realization that a Valkyrie is pretty much as good as a Lord and doesn't need as many experience points. That changes slightly in Wiz8 but hey, I'm not going to get there for awhile.

The question I have is, has anyone else tried doing this and are there any hints people can offer for getting through the dread temple of Ramm and the instankill evils contained therein?

I did it once, with a ninja and a monk. Both of them were fighting with their hands & feet. At first I trained their ninjitsu skill by hiding everytime in combat. This also raises their AC.

Getting through the temple requires some luck. Those priests can wipe out your entire party. I hid my two characters the first round, and was lucky enough that their spells did not hit me. I did drop the cross, by the way, so I didn't fight the king and rebecca.

I've done the duo. I also finished with monk and ninja, but your choice (F/V/L and S) allow you to use the best armor and weapons, and your characters will have very high magic resistance, which helps. (The F/V/L is virtually immune to fire, water, earth; the S has high immunity to fire.)

More recently, I brought a four-character party through (V, S, Ba, and M).

You CAN take a solo through Bane, but it requires using a hex-editor to alter the savegame file. Also, you cannot ever drink from a fountain. (Try it once with a solo and see . . . .)

Is it not possible to create a six-character party with a ninja and let all character BUT the ninja die?

Then you had a solo character and 5 "dead-char-item-storages"

Would it be possible this way?

possible yes, but you then have the inventory of a 6 character party, versus the truer, more difficult 1 or 2 person party.
it'd be easier, yes, but not quite a "true" 1 or 2 PC Party.

Okay, it would be easier indeed, there would be 2 advantages:

1. you can store more items for sale and so have more money
2. you can store all quest items without a problem

but:
1. if you play a ninja you won't money anyways
2. i can't stand few item-slots

so it wouldn't be problem for me.
Or is there another advantage you get for having 5 dead chars with you?

Make sure you go 'right' through the temple. Oh, and they weren't Faeries, but a mook and a rawulf (Samurai and Valk, respectively) It really wasn't that bad, and they were level forty by the end...I think...maybe more. I like having over 300 hps though
