"Wizardry 6 problem, Windows 98."
My problem is an odd one... whenever I install it off the UWA CD, the game works fine... Until I use the Install program to configure the game. It doesn't matter what I change (I once changed the EGA graphics to CGA), it ALWAYS happens that afterwards, the game will always lock up when I try to run it following this.

It works fine in DOS, save for I need to turn the volume WAY up. but I need it to run in Windows so I can take snapshots of it for a review (as it is, I'm thinking of just letting it stay silent).

When is it locking up? If it locks up every time you enter a combat, the cause is probably the sound. Turn it off.

No. It locks up at the Sir-Tech logo that you see the minute the game starts. And I've tried turning off the sound--but the fact is, even if I go through and reverse all the changes I made, it'll tell me to run it in DOS unless I re-install the game (which I have and haven't touched vinstall since).

try making a shortcut to it, right click the new shortcut -> properties -> program tab -> Advanced button
uncheck "suggest MS-DOS mode as a necessity", and try the first option, "prevent MS-DOS programs from detecting windows" as well.

Tried it, didn't work.

I think I'll just have to live with playing the game without touching the config on my desktop PC. The only thing I can think of is to edit the configuration without using vinstall.
