"W7 CD Dosbox sound problem - HELP!!! -"
Hello again,

my game now running fine, I encountered yet another problem:

The sound is not what it used to be (opening doors and during combat)!

It is very much like the speaker sound in W6 and not at all like the old sound blaster effects I was used to from the disk version under Dos when I played the game for the first time in the nineties.

I wonder if this is due to:

A) Dosbox
B) my computer's sound card (which is not an original Soundblaster, of course) or
C) the files in the CD-ROM version of the game.

Has anyone ancountered the same problem and knows how to fix it??

Any help would be most appreciated!

Sir Thomas

Look into the game configuration. What Kind of Audio is Chosen there? If Wiz7 detects no Sound Card it will use PC sounds. And dosbox will emulate them.

Do you have other games running on dosbox? Sound OK?

Setting up Sound can be a Little tricky, but the dosbox Manual should help there.

If you hear any sound, then it is probably just the matter of adjusting CPU speed. In DOSBOX start the game in a window (press ALT-Enter if necesasry), then use CTRL-F11 and CTRL-F12 to slow down/speed up the game, and you should eventually notice the difference in the sound quality. DOSBOX has two windows, game and system, and in the non-game window you should see exact adjustment any time you change the speed. The default is "automatic", which is too fast for some new machines. If you find speed value which works, then you can enter it in the DOSBOX configuration file (could be different file for every old game you play).

I experienced sound effects, too, when I was playing W7 4-5 years ago, but I couldn't solve the problem by changing any dosbox-settings. My assumption was that dosbox can't handle the *.voc-type files, because they were played as they are...with all the data-parts - and that resulted in annoying crackling.
I disabled the sound effects back than.

Just as note, in case changing the setup won't change anything.
But maybe the newer versions of dosbox fixed this, I haven't find tried since.

>I experienced sound effects, too,

...of course I meant "problems with the sound effects"
