"Wizardry 2020"
Hi everybody,

Are there any other classic RPG gamers out there? I am; I love running 4-6 characters simultaneously, turn based combat, rolling up stats and watching skills increase, while figuring out puzzles and dealing with NPC’s. Games like Eye of the Beholder, Darksun, Wizardry: Crusaders of the Dark Savant, and Final Fantasy VII. If that’s your thing read on, if not all the best, but I want to delve into it!

I am currently enjoying Skyrim, Diablo III, and played 5 years of WoW… but there is a hunger,…
a hunger for a good old fashioned RPG with updated brand spanking new graphics!

Right now it feels like this niche is not filled.
MMO’s have redundant combat, repetitive quest formulas, and little depth in the story line once you start playing. Creatures you’ve killed just pop back up again 5 minutes later. If you have 10 friends from work or school who are into it, I imagine it rocks. But I always found myself having to hook up with strangers (who can sometimes be real Grognars) to do any of the exciting stuff like taking on bosses and raids. There’s also the time issue and no way “pause” the game.

In single player RPG’s I’m not able to run with 4-6 characters at once, they usually give you one tag along NPC, and combat is fast and furious! Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy this kind of game too. But sometimes I just want to hear the combat music kick in, make some wise decisions about how to approach the fight, quaft a potion, and watch the action take place; spells fly off, swords swing, and kung fu happens.
And there is far too much Barrel Bashing going on in RPG’s these days. Barrel Bashing and Loot Pinatas with useless “dry old hard candy” items falling out that you’ll never use. What ever happened to that feeling of, “whoah, look a this hawkberg! Or throwing your fist in the air screaming hell yeah when you get the Zweihander Two Handed Sword”!.
I am enjoying Legend of Grimrock 2011 by Almost Human Ltd a lot, they are on the right path.
With “Kickstarter” we’ve seen that there is a big market out there. Games like Shadowrun Returns and Grimfandago have been given loads of support to build the games the gamers like us want to play.

My question is, are there enough of us old-school fans out there to bring Wizardry back to life!

Here’s a little presentation I put together in the hopes of getting this thing Kickstarted!

Go full screen, get some pop-corn and enjoy!
All the best,
-Moog

(ps. Barrel Bashing includes vases, jugs, pots and boxes and crates as well)

Uhm, aren't you going to have some copyright issues using the Wizardry name? Especially with the new Wizardry MMO coming out ...

It's just a dream at the moment, I hope the guys who have the rights put it together. Otherwise I'm gonna have to win the lottery to get the rights ;)
The MMO just looks like any other MMO that they just slapped the name on. Like what happened with Dungeons on Dragons Online... it was a fine MMO but apart from having DnD races didn't feel anything like DnD.

If you have an iPad, try SilverSword. It's a bit more Bard's Tale like than Wizardry, but I think it's what you're looking for.

Cool I'll check it out, I have an i-pad. And while on the subject, imagine an i-pad version of Crusaders of the Dark Savant, exact same game, little better sound ? Would be Amazing! I'm going through original again now on the PC ;)
Fighter - Samurai
Priest - Mage
Psi - Thief

the sound is a bit dreadful though, everything else is great, once you get into an early 90's state of mind after a half hour or so.
