"Beast of 1000 Eyes"
Man, these guys are machines.

I have a fighter, samurai, ninja, thief, priest and a mage. Everyone is level 80. Just the other night I finally put down the Fiends of 9 Worlds.. but I just can't go the distance against the beasts.

Things are fine in the beginning.. and I'm poking away at them.. but then they start getting lucky with their screams and Dazzling Lights and half my forces are doing damage control and then BAM.. someone withers and dies or takes 300 damage from a Dazzling Lights.

I should point out that I'm playing on expert, I'm going toe to toe with them (not the hide and wait them out route), and I also have a personal rule of "no one dies".

If someone dies.. I restart the game (so basically all my characters right now are still on their 1st life).

This is literally the last thing I have to do in the game, hahah.

I got lucky ONCE and managed to paralyze one of the beasts, but the other went into rage mode ;)

It's been tooo long since I have played this game. I had to install my monster viewer to remind myself of what all they were packing. Looking at their attacks, it seemed like nothing ... you;ll get poisoned, big deal. Then checking out the spells ... 50% chance of Dazzlings Lights

Their resistances are pretty high in most areas ... I won't say what, in case you don't care to know their weaknesses.

I have dediced I need to install and play this game next. My son will be disappointed that means I won't have time for his newest Mortal Kombat

He needs to understand the roots of gaming moreso than a rehash of the same old thing ;)

I've looked through the monster editor so I know their stats.

..and I would say that if it wasn't for Dazzling Lights, they'd be a lot easier to deal with.

It's the lucky deaths and the massive damage (gotta be percentage based) that's taking me out after 15+ rounds.

I think it will be easier to beat the Beast, than to get that idea through my 15-year old's head ... so, I look forward to the Beast.

I would say it's not the spells, it's the LEVEL.

It's the highest-level monster in the game (100, IIRC), and monster level vs. character level has a lot more to do with just about everything: how likely a monster's spell is to affect a character, how likely a character is to crit a monster, etc.

Get another 20+ levels - which really is not as difficult as it may sound - and the Beast will become a lot easier.

Ya, ya, I always used to say that ... but no one wanted to believe me

I was surprised to find that I don't have the Monster Level in the viewer ... looking at the "unused" data, it is not readily apparent how that is derived either. Seems like bytes 21 - 28 in that category are typically high values (or zeroes) for most formidable foes ... though the beast only has 3 such values where Rexx has 5 ... maybe that other guys editor is more informative.

Indeed, the level grind at that point is near laughably easy, so long as you know the right spot to go.

I don't remember the Beast's weakness. I just simply overleveled my party to the point that I could beat it by brute force. I don't suppose Magic Screen or Fire Shield might help? Weaken might affect spellcasting, but I don't recall offhand.

Best way to beat the beast is come back after level 100+. You can have fun by summoning your fantasmagora and have him beat the best. Do this by using the weaken spell many times. Then call the fantasmagorra out and his death wish may get though...it has for me.
