"Toying with propabilities"
This magnificent game has one flaw: most of the time it is empty of loot. The great Mad God has added some and I have continued his work. (The new different loot entries for various monster groups are a big help.)

I edited Gorns, Munks and Rattkins drop various goodies with 1-3 % chance. Many know by Light Sword in W8 that it is a very small chance, but in W7 there are so many encounters that by level 9 I had gotten 2 Dragon Slayers, Bushido Blade, Naginata, Stave of 12 Stars, a hammer still unidentified plus some minor stuff.

That was good, but it would be more fun to find gradually more stronger weapons. I decided to make loot somewhat level-sensitive, that is, edit it along the way. I filled basic monsters' loot slots and gave them about 7 % chance to drop basic weapons, with some emphasis on missile weapons and stix. Before New City I got War Hammer, Quarter Staff, 2 Bows, Sling, 3x stones, some darts, two Baselards and 2x stixs. So 7 % seems to be a good choice: I get loot but not too much. My idea is namely to eventually get what I need but not too easily. I plan to reduce the chances again as I advance in the game.

Sounds good.

I don't know I kind of like how scarce everything was. It just seemed more real this way. I think it would be odd to find some extremely powerful artifacts/weapons just everywhere.

But I agree the game does seem to be pretty stingy with nice things.

Once I beat this game without any kind of edits, I am going to try this out.

... that whoever you fought, whatever gear/weapons/stuff they were using on you or equipped with, that should be the "loot" the dropped ... then you pick and choose between what they had, what you already have and how much you can carry.

Of course, that doesn't apply to well to monsters ...

It was like that in Gateway to the Savage Frontier, but I think it would lead to trouble in W7. You know there is a limit for items on a map area and in the backpacks. There is also the problem that several monsters have same loot entry.

You know, too, that we have to stretch our imagination somewhat while playing W7. I can easily imagine I found items in the room or on the ground. Perhaps the "crunching bones" belonged to him or her who dropped the weapon? Doesn't the Helazoid say "Many are you that have come from the stars" or something like that? I know whom she refers to, but perhaps my party is not the first Aletheides had to bring there.

But I still like the sparsity of loot and the waiting. Even 7 % in every loot slot isn't very much. I made a second run from the start to New City. It's still enjoyably frustrating. I think I many times played at least half a dozen battles without getting anything.
