I rewrote a major part of the game out of idle curiosity, and had a blast. Basically, I almost doubled the number of monsters that appear in encounters. I increased the stats for some weaker ones, and reduced the chance for spell casting of some (like Gorn Rangers). All the monsters are just as difficult, or more-so, but appear in hoardes now. I also up'd the XP for newbie monsters so that you're 5th level by the time you finish the Noob Dungeon. Then I cheated. I put 6 Regen items (including the coveted Amulet of Healing) as the end reward for the newb dungeon. A Faerie Cap, Elven bow, Cameo Locket, Diamond Ring, Ankh of Healing. I put 'cool' equipment in the noob dungeon so you could handle this onslaught of monsters a bit easier (catering to a Fighter/Lord/Valk type, a Samurai Type, and a Ranger Type as well as some nice robes for the other types). I turned most of the fountains into poison (no more running to a fountain to regen mana), and placed the really really good idems on the mainland instead of in the Gorror's Chests. So, start early with a Horn of Promethean for your Bard, get Mantis and Ebony equipment for your Fighter type, the Muramasa and Wak +1 for any Sam/Ninja, etc. I took all the arrows and reduced their weight to 1/10th of an encumberance so you could carry alot of them, and increased their found numbers by alot. Including adding Barbed Arrows to Rossarian for purchase. I made the Lesser and Greater Wilds the most deadly places on the planet filled with Dinosaurs and Dragons and when you fight Conquilados, expect to fight around 45 at once (like the old Hog Beetles spot).
Anyhows, just finished one of the funnest versions of the game, ending the game with all my characters being 110th level without ever sitting at a XP-Bot spot (though admittedly, I refused to ever show my papers in Ukpyr leading to massive Umpani Trooper battles). BTW, very cool, if you barge in on General Yamo, he acts like you were invited and you still get the Thermal Pineapple quest. ;) Didn't know that before.
Beasts of 1000 Eyes stil kicked my butt.... twice.... ok, 5 times before I just dropped it down to Moderate instead of Difficult level and killed it effortlessly. I know... shoulda stuck it out and killed those 2 Beasts at difficult instead of 1 at moderate.
Sadly, although a fun game, it got to be too easy. The bot city was finished in like 10 minutes as I Critical'd every bot before it shot at me. Cept for the mass mega-bot spot at the end.
Also, Mad-God, if you happen to read this far, not only a huge thanks for the tool that let me re-write it in my image, but thought you should know that unarmed combat still Slays Fighters. Only the weapons are 'fixed' by your tool, unarmed ninjas still slay.
Anyhows, if anyone wants a copy of my mods, I'm happy to share.
