"Edit NPC's attitude towards a party member"
I have been practicing stealing at Rossarian's, but mistakingly I saved the game after Rossarian caught me. Now he wouldn't trade with the character he caught stealing (Others can still trade with him).

Now Mad God's Editor (Cosmic Forge 1.50) was a great help, because there in the Save Game Viewer I found in the stats of my party member called NINJA that Rossarian's attitude towards him is -23 instead of 8. (See the screenshot: siegmund.szm.sk/problem.png)

After that is was not too difficult to find the spot in the save file where the values 08 cumulate with an intervening E9 (decimal: 233, since 233-256=-23).

Thank you Mad God for your viewer. Although I could not edit the attitude spot with it directly, it helped me a lot finding it. Maybe for the next major release of Cosmic Forge you can make the save game viewer a save game editor aswell.

1. "Not likely"
I believe MadGod has said in the past that he won't make the forge capable of editing save game files. He doesn't want it to be used as a cheat. As you have discovered, however, the forge gives sufficient information to allow someone with even a basic knowledge of hexediting (like me) to make the necessary edits.

... to change Barlone's mind, so folks could still trade with him, even though the other rattkin got whacked, before they could interact with them.

I'm sure I coud find the instructions (to hexedit that) somewhere, but this sounds like something very different.

That is pretty changeable using the editor. This is NOT a saved game.

Scary is right. It won't happen. The viewer IS already a cheat enough.
Not mentioning the editor itself which allows modifying/viewing map events...
