"New Wizards and Warriors review at IGN 3-1-2000"
IGN

Fairly long, in depth and very promising review. Many of the elements we would want are there, and many we don't want are not there (i.e. multiplayer). It is very "Wizardry-esque" ... and understandably so, given it's author.

This game sounds incredible! In some ways it almost feels like he's moving a little away from the Wizardy trilogy he made, and back to the original trilogy (with things like being able to add and remove party members at any time, having towns not be part of the game environment but rather just places from which we can pick certain services, and allowing you to only enter an "elite" class after you have some skill in a basic class -- all of these features sound directly out of Proving Grounds). Wow -- a 3d version of proving grounds written by Bradley... I'm sensing the possibility of dethroning W7 for favorite game of all time.

The only things about which I'm skeptical is the combat system. The article really didn't make it clear exactly how it will work, and I hope there's no things like time limits on picking actions, etc.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-00 AT 07:46 AM (Pacific)

I get IGN as part of a newletter and I read the review and I can only say one thing: I want it!!!

I will have to see if I can find a copy, so that I can get a close look at the game. But, it has to be better than "Drakan-Order of the Flame" and I really like that game.

I liked the graphics so far. This is the only game that came out recently, that I really want. Well, except for Wizardry 8 that is.

This game is not due out until this fall. But at least it seems very likely they will meet that date. For what I've heard, the game has been done for a while and now that they have a publisher (as of 1-10-2000 - Activision) it should be a "slam-dunk"

Of course, having signed a publisher, they had to change the game a bit (all for the better I think) and remove multi-player. The other change, removing 3rd person perspective, ... eh, I don't care to much either way.
