"Questions and Praise for Mad God's Editor"
Mad God,

Your editor is amazing. Thank you for making it available to us. I have a few questions regarding it. Hopefully you or others familiar with your program can point me in the right direction.

1) When I try to add text or loot events (among others), the editor crashes. This problem is not universal as I can successfully add certain events; for example, I have created a small dungeon with a ladder to and from it as well as a fountain and some fights within it. Is there anything that I might be doing wrong or is this a known problem? The README seems to suggest that adding loot and text events is possible.

2) Does "fake water" look like water but not require swimming?

3) Why do you not allow editing of savegames?

4) I deleted some NPC text because after collecting many maps they were endlessly pestering me. However, the text events themselves still exist and require me to hit several times. The process is therefore hastened but not optimal. Is it possible to delete the text event itself from the NPC monologue so that upon bothering the PC he will just appear on the screen without any speech or required buttons to press?

Thanks again for all your work.

Vekx

1. "RE: Questions and Praise for Mad God's Editor"
You are welcome.

1. It seems that this is the one of the current bugs. When the text with id 0 (which actually not exists) is going to be displayed, the game crashes. Wait a couple of days for the new version.

2. It seems so. I just don't remember it exactly.

3. This is cheating. Editing the scenario file allows cheating as well, but it also allows creating a new scenario. Editing the savegame allows cheating only. I don't like it.
Moreover, using the editor you can quickly determine bytes you are interested in if you are familiar with hex-editing.

4. You should go to Incident Editor (those are actually NPC Editor) and edit the NPC's script by replacing 'Text' command by another command (for example 'Give Gold' with value 1 and multiplier 0) so it does nothing special. Or you can change the text ID in the 'Text' command so it would be much shorter.
If you are frustrated about how to edit NPC scripts, feel free to ask any questions.
Be warned though that changes in NPC scripts applied immediately without the Apply button and cannot be discarded. But they are applied in the programm's memory only and any can still exit the editor without writing them to the game database. In order to save script changes to the game database you have to push Ctrl+S or the button 'Save Changes' on the main dialog.

Hint 1: When making changes to the scenario, make backups of the scenario.dbs (or *.gld in GOLD) in order to try to undo possible unwelcomed changes.

Hint 2: You can launch the editor with a single string parameter which will identify the unicue settings stored in the Windows Registry. Thus you can have several shortcuts which launch the editor for different game locations (for example: "CosmicForge.exe w7" will start the editor and point it to the c:\Games\wiz7 folder, while "CosmicForge.exe w7_2" will start the editor and point it to the c:\Games\w7_backup folder, while "CosmicForge.exe w8" will start the editor and point it to the c:\Program Files\sirtech\w8 folder. Thus you not required to change the settings each time you want to apply the editor to the different game location and you can have several editors loaded up for different location.

Re 1: It's odd. I can't even edit existing loot events - as well as text events, hidden events, and several others - much less add my own to the map.

Re 4: Thanks for the tip, that worked great.

1. Maybe. If the new version won't have that fixed, I'll continue the investigation.

Very low priority, but thought you'd want to know that the "View Game Information - " for Wizardry Gold vs Wizardry Gold from Archives is very different.

Regardless of Race of Class it starts with:

Strength: 22
Intelligence: 49
Piety: 46
Vitality: 42
Dexterity: 49
Speed: 45
Personality: 50

Bonus: 21

Female has a Bonus: 22, but the rest the same.

Just thought you'd want to know.... If you need any files from me, glad to share.

Nice stats, don't you think?
I should have hardcoded that information in the first place, than it would not have produced so much troubles by fetching the information from the binaries of which there are plenty of different versions.
But let's go till the end.
Send me please the following files from your Wgold archives version:
WIZARD.EXE
MSG.GLD
NEWGAME.GLD
PCFILE.GLD
SCENARIO.GLD
DISK.HDR
MASTER.HDR
MISC.HDR
MSG.HDR
SCENARIO.HDR

That's enough. Actually I need wizard.exe only, but for other possible bugs related with this version I would like to have all the important files.

Thanks!
