"I'm Having Problems with Wiz1 for the Macintosh - Please Help!"
LAST EDITED ON Dec-13-05 AT 03:28 AM (Pacific)

I love the Wizardry games, the first probably more than the rest. I have (hopefully) copies of the first and second titles for the macintosh downloaded from http://mac.the-underdogs.org/index.php?show=alpha&alpha=87.
After opening them, the first one says it is loading the dungeon data (can't remember what second one says) but both either lock up or require me to restart my computer because there was some kind of unimplemented trap. I am using both a Powerbook 5300cs and an emulated Quadra 650, but has same effects on both.
Please help. I have heard that the Macintosh versions are the best in existance, and from the screenshots I can believe it. I thank anyone for reading it and even acknowledging its presence, even if no help can be offered.

Read your post sorry I can't help.

I'm personally trying to get the mac versions running via applepc and dosbox (to slow down the execution).

Going to try moslo next.

Though I must admit there are SOME features I like about the IBM version versus the mac version.

1) Spell points are replenshed when you re-enter the maze (apple version requires a rest at the Inn)
2) Hit points and list of characters are displayed when chosing the target for a heal spell
3) In most cases selection of characters if based on menus where you key in the letter for the character on the list, in the apple version you type out the full name mostly

Any for me since I am using the emulator there are the standard inconveniences of using the emulator itself.

Still I am hoping to give it a try. Since I've completed the IBM version and am looking for some fun replayability.

I finally found out how to work it!

I had to emulate a mac plus using mini vMac to run the Wizardry II, though I still have no luck using WizardryI because there is no character file. This makes it impossible to make new characters. Darn!

I think you people are confused. Yes, there is an easily emulated Apple II version of the game (the original version of it) but I am talking about the Macintosh version, Macintosh being a product of apple as well, but not the same thing. The Macintosh version was not in text mode like the Apple II version, it was all graphical: quite neat I might add.

If anyone could locate the character and scenario files, I would be greatful.

Brambo - Do you know where I could find the IBM versions? Also: I have ApplePC (awesome emulator). There is an item on its main menu, I think accessed by pressing "w" that can set a delay so it is not too fast.

Thanks to all!

Uh, what world are you living on? I have one version of Mac Wizardry which I've been playing since I was a little kid.

1 is not true. In the Mac version you always replenish your spell points upon re-entering the maze.

2 is not true. Hit points and list of characters are always displayed when choosing the target for a heal spell.

3 Never bothered to do it this way so I wouldn't know.
