"problem in the Dane Tower"
So I'm having a little problem here. I've had Wizardry 7 for 10 years now, and I'm finally playing through it fully. I've just entered the Dane Tower and am on the first level. As I explore I step into a room here and a Dane by the name Almagorte makes contact with me, but instead of wanting to talk he instantly attacks. Now I know he plays a role here, and I need to be on good terms with him, so I'm wondering what have I done to disgrace him so much that he doesn't even say a word to me, but just goes right for a fight. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Any help would be nice.

1. "Which 7 are you playing?"
Original or Gold? It makes a big difference in Diplomacy. It is is original, I would think the interaction would be dominated by your diplomacy skill.

In Gold, faction interactions are more controlled by key encounters. Have you made contact with the Dane in New City? If not, that may be it.

I have had Almagorte attack me without provocation or a single word of dialogue before. The first was when I killed Kymas Turan (actually, he attacked me), and the second was after I killed the Magna Dane, then went down to say hello to Almagorte afterwards. Guess he didn't think my actions were too funny.

Oddly enough, other times I would kill the same people, and Almagorte would greet me like an old friend afterwards. Weird, huh?

Yeah, that's what I think I'm going to end up doing. Just killing him.

He leaves me no choice anyway, directly after the game narration when he appears he attacks right away, I was hoping to trade good with him, and easy off the weight my party is carrying around.... if that was even possible.

I'm fairly certain that the only thing Almagorte gives you is Jonga Powder, which is not even necessary. It helps, of course, to disarm traps in the Dane Tower and on the Isle of Crypts, but its not necessary. Can you climb the Tower without speaking to him?

Anyway, he drops some anyway when you kill him.

There's no need for a Dane alliance to complete the game, or to even initiate into the order and get to the top. Neither good nor bad comes from retaliating to his attacks. So, the best fix is to just kill the bugger. ;)

Don't you need to get to the top of the tower and kill the Magna Dane to get the Coil of the Serpent? I think the Coil opens up the path to where you get the Dragon Key near the City of Sky... which is needed to descend on the Isle of the Dead.

Wow... that was one nerdy paragraph!

I think it's: Dane Tower => Magna Dane => Coil => Dragon Cave => Dragon Key => DOOM => Tomb of the Astral Dominae => Astral Dominae => Win

But you don't need to be friendly with the Dane to do it. No matter how many Dane you kill, they'll still let you get to the top of the tower. ;)

So you can get up there without initiating. Good information for the above poster... and something new for me!

Thanks!

I didn't say that. But last time I killed every Dane I came across (except the shop-keep with the Jonga powder) and they still let me initiate and get to the top. The Dane that initiates you never gives you a chance to kill him, so it's not a problem, and he doesn't seem aware that you want him dead.

ok, thank you very much guys. You've helped a lot, hopefully I'll pass the game soon! Wish me luck.

ooohhh, one more question.

Is there, or isn't there a glitch during level advancement where you have all the stats maxed out at 100 in each skill area in one of your Skills (Academia, Physical, etc) and it gives you points to add but you are unable to because you're already at 100 in each skill?! Hope that made sense, if someone could confirm this because I'm reaching that point soon as I've been profession swapping the whole game at level 10.

It depends on if you're on Gold of 7, and which version. If not sure, I believe Mad God's Editor has an auto-fix you can do to avoid that bug.

I'm playing through Wizardry 7 (NOT GOLD), as for version, I'm not sure how to figure that out. Thanks, I'll look into the Editor.

13. "100 in all skills ..."
... only a problem in WizGold.
