"Demise - Win95/98/2000"
Has anyone had a go at this game ?
http://www.artifact-entertainment.com/demise/

I heard of it through Cleve Blakemore (the Grimoire Developper)

http://grimoire.blinkingdot.com/news.html

He seems to be impressed, but has not put up any user reports yet.

Modern as it may be, the game is not supported on NT, probably because of DirectX7 (but it has OpenGL support as well AND Win2000 support - you figure it out !).

So I need to know wether it's worth installing windoze98 or maybe it runs on NT after all ?

1. "Demise (ominous name :)"
I haven't had time (or room) yet to download the hog. Given what I've heard about W2000 and NT, I'd say there'll probably be a patch/new release to support those (if thewy don't already claim to support W2000).

Luckily for me, I'm still running ole reliable (Windows 95 - I figure if you've got a working Windows don't upgrade unless you absolutely have to )

2. "RE: Demise - first try on NT40"
I took Demise for a short spin in single-player mode, and here are my first impressions:

Well, despite the fact that DirectX7 won't install on WinNT40, the game does run, BUT:
- no sound (can't initialize sound module => DirectX 7 needed for this ?)
- I have DirectX5 installed on NT (not quite the official version, which is DirectX3)

The Game:
- Good range of races (9) and professions (12),called"guilds"
- races/guilds have special bonusses: resistance or extra damage points, etc.
- very nice GUI, well layed-out
- the view window is smallish (using a 17'' monitor)
- very Dungeon & Dragon oriented (as stated in various reviews): so no NPC's to talk to, not even in the shop.
- the combat system: fully automatic only ?
I didn't figure out the magic system.
- brilliant library on items and magic
- 3d graphics: 2.5D tunnel system (like Wiz7, but with vastly more detailed bitmaps), 3D creatures running around.

So to wrap up: nice to walk around in, but I miss a story line and NPC's.

Back to work now
