"Wizardry archives on Windows ME"
We have the Ultimate Wizardry Archives from Interplay, and are trying to make it run in ME. Specifically, we want Wiz 6. Needless to say, it's not working at all. It installs, but won't run. Just says that it has performed an illegal operation, and terminates.

I know ME is hostile to DOS, so maybe this is wishful thinking, but is there a way to make it go? Has anybody succeeded? Is there a setting in the properties window that we don't know about? (we already tried "prevent MS-DOS programs from detecting Windows.")

Thanks in advance.

i have not tried Bane on ME. however, i remember that i could not get Bane to run on SE, either. what i had to do was "Restart in MS-DOS mode" and then run bane from DOS. that always worked.
anyway, as i don't even know if ME has a MS-DOS mode or not, this may not even apply. good luck!

I specifically point it to message #11 but the whole thread - or most of it - applies.

I was going crazy, not being able to play Bane on my new ME machine. I installed a Linux partition and run a DOS emulator, which runs Bane perfectly. Well, nearly perfectly, I'm still trying to get sound going.

Hmm I've been able to get Bane up and running on my ME system. The problem is that moslo doesn't quite slow it down enough. Can I bypass the bane.bat and using a seperate instance of moslo determine what % I want? Usine bane.bat I get slowdowns of around 24% which is waaaay to fast. I'm thinking more like 1% or 0.1%.

I have also succeeded in running Bane under ME. MoSlo is probably the answer to the problem. As noted, the game still runs very fast. (The monsters look like they've had a few too many cappucinos.) It's livable, but you may need to use the game delay (under the configuration menu) to slow down the combat messages to a readable speed.

Running WinME on a 1Ghz machine, you can most probably away with mo'slo at 10% (edit the batch file that runs the game). If you change to XP though, you'll have to run mo'slo recursively.

Well after horsing around a bit last night, I found that moslo at 2.7% (hehe) got me a good speed on my 900mhz win ME system. I had to slow the text a lot, but it's mostly ok. Sound doesn't work though, but that's ok. The only other annoyance is the occasional glitch where everythingn freezes for a couple of seconds, then everything goes at warp speed for a few. It wasn't too frequent though.
