"Sword of Hearts"
I spentmany a game wishing I could find this sword for my front-line Thief (something that doesn't seem to popular) when I found that it wasn't a random drop at all.

I just wanted to know if there is any way to get this sword in a point of the game where it would acutally be useful since the chest is so far into the game (right?).

As of now it seems my Thief has the crap-o Cutlass until he gets his hands on a Vorpal or a Thieves' Dagger in the Rattkin ruins.

Oh and it's great to see people STILL playing this great game.

kinda obvious they wanted thieves to use daggers.
If you get an HP-regen item to counter the drain, Poison Dagger is available very early.
Thieve's Dagger comes later, and is hard to get.
You can get to the chest with Hearts fairly early, but you have to get lucky with all those Undead at the Wikum (throw bombs), and then have some high Fire resistance to get to the Coil. (don't have to fight Brommy, though, you can avoid him by leaving the boat in the southern corner and swimming from landing to landing)

Poison Dagger does not drain HP. It is just cursed. A nice weapon in the very beginning.

Ymmu's paw is very good one too. Though it has not big damage, it has 15% to stone that is very nice. Also it adds 30% to paralysis resistance - very good too. It can be possessed rather early - you can go to Nyctalinth just after the Orcogre.

Thieves dagger. Good weapon for the thief. Always sold by Blienmeis (in Thieves Guild). But you got to get to Rattkin ruins. It is also possible after the Orkogre.

Vorpal Blade. Sold by Rossarian, but after 131 days of playing and is not guaranteed. Also found 100% in the chest in Rattkin Ruins. Also found in Barlone's treasure, but it is not accessible early. Also found in Brombadeg Cave (in two chests).
By the way Vorpal Blade does slightly more damage than Sword of Hearths, but in other respects it is less powerfull.

If your thief is faerie, then Rod of Sprites is very good weapon.
Has small chance to be dropped by demons (very small indeed). Can be found in Dane Tower (Magna Dane' floor, good chance). and in the brombadeg's cave.

Coil of the Serpent is great weapon. But you need to compensate its regen -1 and it is located on the Magna Dane's floor of the Dane Tower.

I did not considered extended/thrown/long weapons here, only close ones for frontal thief.

Also I believe Thieves Dagger is better than Sword of Hearths. TG does 7.5 damage in average, while SoH does 8. No much difference, heh? but TG has 5% Kia and poison that could give additional 2 damage per round here and there, SoH only has 2% kia. TG is also lighter than SoH. so...

It is a random drop of sorts ... you have a 50/50 chance of getting that (or the Saint Bastard) in slot #2 of the treasure in which it is found (treasure # 171).

Yeah those are some good points gang. Perhaps my Thief shouldn't be a sword wieldin' type.....daggers ARE more Thieflike anyways.

I might just "give" myself the Sword of Hearts after Orkogre, just until I get the Vorpal and/or Thieves' Daggers. Or I could just use the Poison Dagger and Ymu's Paw then.

Refresh my memory....why do you need to do Orkogre before heading to Nyctalynth (please excuse the dreadful town spellings)?

Say.......how come the crappy ol' Bullwhip doesn't show up until way later too?

You don't need to. I just believe many player prefer Orkogre as the first place to go, to get training. I do.

Ahh ok. I might just try to run to Nyctalinth and grab the paw then run out.

Seems if Thieves are best with daggers a Faerie Thief becomes a more viable choice than before.......ehh I'll still make a Felpurr.

Or I'll use the editor to change Felpurr to Rattkin....now that'd be cool.

you cannot change race to rattkin. No such race for character exists.

True, but you can just edit the text and fiddle with the stats a bit to reflect a rat-like guy (fast n' frail).

And change the portrait???
