"Critical Thinking"
Party Composition:
Sex: Race: Prof: Name:
M Felpurr Ninja Muteki
F Human Ninja Alia
F Hobbit Ninja Furry Proudfoot
M Faerie Ninja Flyt
F Elf Bishop Jessica
M Gnome Bishop Ebenezum

Hobbit Ninja is my lockpicker and Faerie may end up being pickpocket
Jessica is concentrating on Mage & Priest realms
Ebenezum is concentrating Alchemy & Psionic realms
Since Faerie Ninja will end up with the CoC am trying to pump his throwing/sling so when he gets the CoC he will use powders & potions and will use those for ranged combat.
Also plan to take the game slow and to never recruit rpcs in order to achieve maximum level.

Chose this party for criticals, criticals, criticals, and lots of spellpower. This party is also very cheap in terms of armor and weapons, I make lots of money selling all the excess armor and weapons. In the beginning this is balanced by the expense of the spellbooks I buy with all that money for the two Bishops.

----Adventure Diary---

Monastary: Levels 1-6
Fought the usual preset encounters and expected monsters for random encounters. Hung around monastary until encounters became far and few between.
Also “trained” the stealth skill of my ninjas in the pool where the Tanika fish are. Killed all but one fish and then used that fish to train the up stealth. I would monitor their progress and the bishops would throw a heal spell when necessarry; this helped my two bishops “train” their priest spells and the divinity realm making it much easier for both of them to cast higher level heal spells when needed early in the game.

Arnika Road: Levels 6
Road to arnika was much easier then expected. There were very few encounters even though I hung around a lot looking for them. Did have one interesting encounter with a low level Sige and 4 Bandits.

Arnika: Levels 6-7
Didn’t hang around Arnika very long. Talked to Myles, rescued Vi, talked to Braffit, explored temple and got wheel key. Also visited Ferro to sell all the excess items I had. Followed HLL around and had two random encounters in which the HLL helped beat the HELL (is that why they are the HLL??) out of the enemies.

Back to Arnika Road: Level 7-8
Left Arnika at level 8; this time Arnika road was filled with Higardi Highwaymen. Had 3 encounters in a row with groups of 6-10 enemies. Encounters were 5-6k xp.
At this point my idea of choosing 4 ninjas for the criticals is already making itself apparent.

Back to Monastary: Level 8-9
Now that I had been away from the Monastary for a while it had repopulated, but this time with level appropriate monsters. Went to Cierdan’s tomb first. Walked around the Monastary and had several encounters – each of them netting me as much or more then the encounters I just had getting here but with far fewer monsters that were much easier to kill. Examples include 4 metallic slimes, 2 vampire bats, 4-6 poison seekers, 1 emerald slime, or 4-6 pestilant rats. Criticals abound in all of these encounters!! My idea of having 4 ninjas for all the criticals is already paying off!

Arnika Road Round 3: Level 9
At this point I’ve left the monastary (probably for good – but we’ll see).
Had 5 encounters on the way back to Arnika; 5 crusher crabs, 4 highwaymen, 4 highwaymen, 5 acid vines, 4 brigands. The brigands were the only ones that were interesting – and then only because 1 ran away from me near the end and I chased him halfway back to the monastary.

Note: I’ve been concentrating my bishops spells mostly on debilitating spells (insanity, sleep, web, freeze flesh, noxious fumes) instead of damage spells – leaving my enemies too weak to fight allowing my 4 ninjas to easily clean up. It works really well!

Arnika Again: Level 9
Recruited myles – took away all his equipment – then dismissed him. Sold his equipment for cash excpet for the throwing daggers which I kept. Did same to Vi. Thoroughly explored the rest of Arnika. I had hoped to be level 10 when leaving Arnika this time, but that was proving too time consuming and difficult. Am close to 10 and am leaving now for Trynton.

Arnika-Trynton Road: Level 9-10
Thoroughly explored the road to Trynton. Went up and down on both sides and to the cemetary. Attempted the first retro dungeon but had lots of problems with all the locked doors – I’m finding this is something my party is a little bit weak on as I don’t have the knock-knock spell yet. Resorted to an earlier save and went back to Arnika for some knock-knock scrolls. Anna had two plus the book of knocks! Sold my excess stuff and headed back to cemetary to do the retro dungeon.

Retro Dungeon: Level 10
Explored retro dungeon and killed all kinds of dungeon baddies. I’m finding two bishops rock when it comes to fighting undead things – two whacks of turn undead! Also killed a few groups of undead around the cemetary after I came out. Had an encounter with 14 bats on way back to Arnika.

Arnika-Trynton Road: Level 10
Went back to Arnika, sold excess goodies I found in retro dungeon and around cemetary. Headed back out on the road to go to trynton this time.

Trynton: Level 10-12
Explored Trynton and did usual things. By the time I was done I was loaded with excess armor & weapons so I made a brief trip back to Arnika to sell – had a difficult time getting back but my return was very easy. I then made a brief foray into the swamp to have the DS encounter and get the fake AD. Went back to Rattkin tree and killed Barlone for the AD and the CoC. Back to Arnika (hit lvl 12 on road back) briefly then a brief excursion to Mt Gigas.

Arnika Road & Northern Wilderness: Level 12
Made a brief excursion to Mt Gigas to talk to people, sell stuff, enlist, and get an umpani flag. All enounters were easy and now I’m off to explore the swamp.

Swamp: Level 12-13
Going through Trynton on the way to the swamp I had 3 encounters with Hogars. Two died in first round from a critical, the other actually lasted until round 2 before I got him with a crit. Got a crit on steelhide croc in 2nd round. Visited Crock – sold excess loot and spent all my gold (80k-ish) on spellbooks, ninja armor for Flyt, and better slings. At this point I was broke so went back to Arnika to mix potions for money – then went back to Crocks via Trynton (where I went up to the Rattkin Tree and killed a lot of Rattkin) where I bought more stuff.

Mine Tunnels: Level 13-14
After returning to the swamp and dispatching some enemies I made a very brief excursion into the SE Wilderness to net a bit extra xp. Now into the Mine Tunnels area. Fixed RFS-81 for the xp and talked to the Tantris in the mines. All the battles I had in this area were extremely easy. Went back to the swamp & Rattkin tree for some more quick xp then proceeded to the Bluff.

... if for now other reason, you had an easy go of "Monster Central" in the Mine Tunnels ... I have never been able to say that with any party of mine, that I can recall ... at any level.

I like this thinking.

I have a 2 ninja, 1 samurai, 1 monk party (+ 1 lord, 1 bishop) imported from CoDS. I'm approaching going to A. Peak, and am getting around at least 1 critical per round.

It probably helps that 1 ninja has CoC, the other one has one of my 2 Light Swords, the samurai a muramasa blade, and monk with Zatoichi Bo. Not to forget RFS-81, who contributes to the carnage very efficiently.

Is it possible to get more than one Cane of Corpus in any legitimate way?? For mine, this would make a 3+ ninja party very worthwhile. I.e. in CoDS you could get 2CoC - one by killing Blienmeis and the next buy forcing the door open and killing Blienmeis again? Is there an equivalent strategy in Wiz 8?? I got my Coc by pickpocketing, and have not killed Barlone. IF I killed him, is it possible CoC would be a random drop?

4. "Another thing to try ..."
I am not sure if the cane is a random drop from killing Don or not ... I think so. Since you got one by picking his pocket, maybe you can try for another one that way. Does their "pocket stock" recycle after 24 hours, just like merchant stock for sale?
