"Wizardry 7 Manual"

Posted by Varlis (Guest) on Nov-27-03 at 04:47 AM
Hey,

I got a bit nostalgic after playing wiz8 and thought of trying out my old Wizardry 7. I even found my disks and they worked after 10 years!
I got even further and managed to get it running under windows XP. (Dosbox crashes on my pc)
But my manual did not survive the 10 years.
CAn someone help me out? I found a *.txt version of the manual, but the formatting is wrong an I can't get past the password check.
There is currently no crack which works with the "Fast-computers + Pentium-Reboot Patch" DS.EXE. (DSCRACK.COM is not working)

Can someone help me?

Here is a list of the most common password checks, it would be great if you guys could check out and post one or two:

Page Word Paragraph Line
p3 w3 p3 l5
p11 w5 p1 l5
p12 w2 p1 l2
p21 w8 p1 l2
p22 w1 p1 l2
p29 w5 p1 l4
p30 w4 p3 l5
p31 w2 p2 l4
p39 w4 p2 l3
p40 w1 p2 l4
p40 w2 p3 l1
p53 w1 p1 l1
p61 w1 p3 l1
p63 w2 p2 l3
p65 w5 p3 l1
p68 w3 p1 l2
p68 w1 p2 l3

Thanks

Varlis

Yes the pentium path does remove it, but I am using the inofficial patch for newer systems. (The only one that works for me, even with moslo I get a overflow error with the pentium patch)

This patch does not remove it, so I need a password list.

Here ya go Do me a favor, and put this in a text file and store it on the net somewhere? I don't have the resources to do that, but if the CD I have this on ever gets messed up, I'd like to know where I could track down the codes.

As a side note, I own two copies of this game, both of which came with code sheets One came with an issue of "Computer Games Strategy Plus", and the other came in a Memorex value software thing, along with a (pretty bad) adventure game, "The Psychotron". I wonder how many other value ways there were to get it, back in the day?

Hey thanks, elbkhm. I was in the same situation. My manual's still around somewhere, but it keeps eluding me.

Your an absolute legend! I have looked up and down the net for this as I lost my manual about three years ago and have been missing the game ever since.

Cheers!

Thank you!!! You are a genius. I have searched for sooooo long for this.

"Passwords are also stored in the game data."

It is unconvenient, but here is the method:
If you take the Editor, open the Texts Editor, select text block 09C4 or 09FC (password data lie in those subsequent blocks), then you can see all those passwords in the following format:

<page><paragraph><line><word><password>

It will look like this, for example (if you select "Show/use unprintable symbols" checkbox):

{$029$}{$001$}{$004$}{$005$}SEARCH
={$002$}{$003$}{$005$}STRIKE

that means that 'SEARCH' is the password for p29 w5 p1 l4

for 'STRIKE' it is a bit more difficult, since we have symbol '=' instead of a number, in that case a code of '=' should be determined (for example using the 'Insert Symbol' command in Microsoft Word will invoke a dialog where symbol codes may be viewed). So the code of '=' is 61 and that 'STRIKE' is the password for p61 w5 p2 l3.

Just for curious ones...
