"Dungeon Lords demo is out"

Posted by analander on Mar-31-05 at 06:12 PM
David W. Bradley's latest effort -- here's the download.

At first glance it looks like W&W was intended to be: a single character 1st person action/rpg (a little too much action for me though, as turn-based play seems completely gone, it's all Diablo-style combat) with multiplayer capabilities. Even got the same clicky noise for inventory changes, hee hee.

Graphics etc. look decent I suppose. However, even the demo's got a bugs list going, so here's hoping this publisher let's it get patched to completion.

I didn't get too much in to the demo, has anyone else checked it out?

I would have thought their site would have some news or some kind of update ... but nothing since May 2004.

Downloading it now (and it looks like for the next couple hours) ...

LAST EDITED ON Apr-01-05 AT 09:53 AM (Pacific)

Won't be downloading this one. I have a slow dial-up and was going to take 13-14 hrs. That's just too much time.

OK that took a while. One hour and eight minutes.

I'll give the game a try in the morning.

I made a Human Rouge (I think) and then started the game. I managed to run around like a crazed rabbit for a minute or two while three um... things took after me with axes. I couldn't figure out how to engage them other than to stand there and get sliced to ribbons. I tried to talk to some guy only to be attaked by the "things" again and then died.

Looks cool. Have to figure out the controls.

Well I happened to be just looking for new game demos and stumbled upon it. It's linked from the publisher's site, but not HP's. (Guess that's the opposite of last time, when Activision's site had obsolete game info like a removed character class and HP had to make their own patch).

Speaking of which, it needs one. The 3D interface gets garbled easily, there are SFX problems, and so on. Oh it just makes me so sad. A bug-free game *could* be playable, but this demo doesn't exactly attract interest in the title.

"Here is a link to a preview on gamespot"

I just got an email from a friend on this preview on gamespot ... A little synchronicity going on here .. game was due out late last year, no news on their home page, now all this coming in at once ..

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/dungeonlords/preview_6092689.html

Excerpt:

"Though Dungeon Lords is still very early in development ... "

Really odd statement, especially since it was due out last year adn the article claims a 4/20/2005 release date ...

As suspected from the demo, and described in this review, the game is full of bugs. What a shame.

"Besides, I played for about 15 hours into the game before the patch came out, and I earned some serious rant time after all the crap I had to go through with this unfinished trashpile."

I never could get the Demo to work very well. Just ran around like a crazed rabbit until I was killed.

Oh well.
