"Is it me, or are subscriptions broken?"

Posted by Llevram on Jun-09-04 at 06:15 PM
Hey out there ....

I noticed a while back that I stopped receiving the subscription email from this board/forum (i.e. all the forums here). I still have been sending them out, the script says successful, but I don't get the email.

I have talked to my web host, nothing on their end has changed - nothign with the board software changed. They think it is just my email account/redirect. If that is the case, then others should still be getting them ...

So, for anyone who is subscribed ... are subscriptions still working?

I seem to get the e-mails still
Although it seems they are a day behind, and seem to come after I visit the board

must be due to some kind of tear in the fabric of time....
or at least a warping of it due to being too close to an event horizon....

LAST EDITED ON Jun-09-04 AT 06:45 PM (Pacific)

an "undocumented design feature"
similar to that in the mystery menus of wiz gold

Thanks for letting me know ... though it is still puzzling. My provider was geussing it was a problem in redirecting my email, so I plugged in my "real" email address on the forum ... I still did not get the email.

@ Barny - If this is the first one you got, in a while, can you tell me when they stopped? Are you subscribed to all forums?

@ Zaphod - sending the subscriptions is a manual process that I tend to do about 8:00 p.m. Pacific (or later) every night. Mark does it when I am out of town.

I guess I need to research a bit more. Thanks for the input!

. . . I'm not sure I even understand the question. Is this about getting an e-mail notification when someone responds to a thread? (Something I've never used - I visit too frequently, even if only to lurk.)

If it is a techno-geeky scale, of 0 or 1, then you rate a zero

No, thread notification (for lack of a better term) is something else that is not working for me as well, though. You can actually get a once a day (or as often as I send them) email, which contains a synopsis of the new messages, in whichever forums you choose to subscribe to.

After logging in, from the Lobby, choose the User link, then Subscribe to forums.

"It was me ..."

Or rather my ISP (VFR.net). They were filtering emails that came from non-existent addresses. So, because admin@softwarespecialties.com is not a "real" address, the emails were being bounced rather than delivered. This also affected emails from other sources, like where I get my orders for WizEdit.

I complained to my ISP that they were filtering email, rather than allowing me to chose> They suggested I contact everyone that was sending from "invalid" email address and have them change their ways. Huh?

You got it, I changed to a new ISP What an ordeal!

So when are subscriptions supposed to restart? I haven't gotten one in over a week now.

Blessed Be~

I may have missed a day or two in the last couple years. Now that I am on an ISP that is not bouncing them as "invalid".

The subscriptions come from admin@softwarespecialties.com, which is not actually an account. But any reply makes it back to me, due to email forwarding on my domain.

You might double check your subscriptions ... (that you are subscribed to the right forums). Also, traffic has been light recently, so there has not been much to send. When there is no traffic (as there was over the past weekend), no email gets sent.

Dern ICQ mail...they changed the forwarding to another account, so I lost a weeks worth of mail. Seems you have to pay if you want to forward to an account of of ICQ, so I changed my email address (yet again) to one that I have on my domain.

Oh well...live and learn.

Blessed Be~

What is up with subscriptions? I haven't gotten any in about a week now.

Rick can you check and see what is up. I changed my address a week ago, as my domain is moving to a new server and I know how long DNS propagation takes for me.

Four days now and the new DNS for my site still won't stick...it pos between the old Ip addy and the new. Domain mail isn't working either...

"No posts = no subscription email"

This past weekend, everyone was slacking ... no posts, so no subscriptions to send.

Look for one this evening after 8:00 PM (Pacific time) or so .. if it does not show up, let me know.

The original problem on this thread was my own, or rather with my ISP (vfr.net) .. filtering emails that did not come from a "valid" (in their myopic eye) account ... new IP, no problem.

Yes I got one tonight. I set it on the old email address though, at least until my new IP propagates through and my emails start working again.
