"Where is the dang treasure?"

Ok, I finally decide to give this game another try ... it is still as painful as I recall, but it is addicting and has its good points ... and the story seems to be leading me on forever ... more mini-quests than Wizardry, many similar elements (seems like Bradley and Sir-Tech must have talked a lot about the "next game" .. then parted ways.)

Anyhow, I've got to Brimloch Roon, gave Talrik what he wanted, and got his treasure "map" with the "coordinates" he spoke of ... he might as well have just told me: "Get in your ship, sail around a bit, dive and you should find it".

Clues or hints are fine, if they can be given ... like what is the "second sea" ... no one (in game) I have talked to seems to know.

Now, off to Skull Island, to kill the Hydra, cath the Leprechaun ... That is another thing that bugs me about this game .. too "all over the board" .. ou've got Leprechauns living practically in the same scene with the Sphynx and Isis, next door to Skull Island inhabited by Vampire chicks with see-through tops, zombies, werewolfs (kept by a two-headed giant) .. and egyptian mummies ...

You know, I was just kind of expecting that one of the first quests you get upon entering an area, might actually be able to be completed ... you know, soon ... not after (practically) every other quest in that area.

Like, you have to finish Skull Castle and the Temple of Isis/Kerah first, to get to the "2nd sea".

... Now only one problem, the other first quest I got that I have not been able to make good on: conch shells. Have not found a one ... so only one character has an underwater helm.

So, again, thanks to walkthroughs, I see I need to kill some Crabs-o-the-sea, which will drop said shells. Oh, right obvious ... if one of the ones I killed ever dropped one. I have killed 5-6 so far .. they are suposed to be like a 50% drop .. none so far for me.

One trick I have found for staying under water longer ... use combat. For instance, I found that I could start at the surface (or just under it) and start attacking a shark, push it to the bottom and kill it there, expending no air Or, don't kill it, keep healing it, and let it follow you through exploring.

The other suggestion (from walkthroughs) is to drop everyone else from your party and only take the character(s) with the helm (and re-breather, which I don't have - due to no conch shells to give to the guy who will make one). The problem there is ... it is a long friggin' way from port to the sunken city, even with one portal/return spell.

I'll be glad when this is all over ...

"A words on crabs (and conch shells)"

Well, I turned up the respawn rate, hung out in the area around the port, killed all kinds of sea critters ... finally a pair of crabs show up. Killed 'em, no conch shells. Killed more sea critters, then a single crab shows up - bingo! A much-coveted conch shell (which I almost missed, because I killed him on the shore and the conch dropped into the water .. which obscures the view and cursor .. you can't see it or pick it up unless you are underwater as well .. nice).

This got really boring, so I figured I would sail around a bit, see if I could find some crabs hanging out. That proved fruitful, got the other two I needed. Went back to port, gave the shipwright the three shells, and he turns them into two underwater helmets and one re-breather ...

OK ... so by my estimate, at this rate, another hour of crab hunting should put me at a total of 5 helmets for my party of six ... and two re-breathers. Nope ... not going that route.

But with all the killing, my bard got his next level up and spell selection, giving him the complete suite of transport spells (set portal, teleport, call to home).

So, I set off to explore the underwater city, found an air pocket inside, where everyone could get another breath, so set up camp there. In one of the breather breaks, in walk two soft-shelled crabs .. which both drop conch shells! Pay dirt! ... I thought ... next set of them I encountered had no conch shells.

So, in little (wasted) time, I had enough for my next set of helmets ... set a portal, cast the spell back to port, and traded in my 3 conch shells ... for 1 helmet and a rebreather !?!??!??

WTF? Did I have high-quality conch shells the first time? Did the shipwright break one this time? Is there no governmental body governing the exchange rates of conch shells for underwater helmets! Aaaargh!

*snickers*

Sounds like you are having such a fun time. I guess I need to reload W&W and play it through yet another time.

"Masochist :-)"

I finally finished it (just before XMAS) ... I realized later I did not see the opportunity to become a Valkyrie, Zenmaster or Assasin ...

Looked them up on a walkthrough and found that 2 of the 3 (Valkyrie and Zenmaster) only become available at the end of the game. Once again ... aaargh!

I was going to replay (at least for a bit) at a savepoint a long way back, when I turned down vapirism ... replay it taking the vampire's bite. But, now I figure, why bother.

I need to replay it too. I have been everything but a Vampire. I like the ZenMaster, because you have all the books of magick at your disposal. You just have to replay it a few time to get all the spells though.

I need your help! I'm in the crypt, near Rethpian. I need to dive and take the crystal to go any further, but how to do this???
I know I need a Bouble stick and I've got it... But how to use it? I was clicking on the crystal but my character didn't take it... What should I do to take it?
Please help!

But I think you have to select the "use" option, so it is like the bauble stick is "equipped", then use it to get the crystal .. Lady A is the authority in this forum.

IIRC, I resorted to a FAQ/walkthrough to figure this out ...

As Llevram stated...you need to use the Baubble stick to get the gem to come to you. I am sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner...but I am a fulltime student and a fulltime mom.

Yes...I am the expert here and one day...I will post my FAQ/Walkthru for Wizards and Warriors as I have played it through 7 times now.

Heh... Thanks. I finally figured it out - I began playing W&W when I was used to "Eye of Beholder" (a nice - and veeery old - RPG, by the way ), which has quite a different interface.
But thanks anyway.
