I am told today that we expect to be able to make an announcement within the next 2 weeks about when and where you will be able to purchase Wizardry 8 in North America.

When I get, and can release, full details, you can believe I will.

Why?

And while I may be a "guest", I've been posting here for years (if never frequently for obvious reasons).

I am overly tired of his posts. Over the past year or two, I can remember deleting more that had profanity, than I can that had anything less than derogitory, snide, etc.

And his latest snide remark, in the light of soon-to-be-good news, is just one more straw (the camels back is nearly breaking).

(... of all 66 threads in which Decado has ever posted)

Decado, I find my impression of you a bit skewed. I think it was the tone of a few of your early posts that really put me in the mind frame of just thinking "why are you here, besides to complain" and never really "read" many of the rest (aside from those I deleted, as mentioned before).

And as you have been here since the beginning (or within a month or two thereof), you should know why this board was formed and what we expect it to be. Not necessarily the "I'm blind to reality and I love Sir-tech" board, but a place where the Sir-tech bashers are less-than-welcome.

Llevram,

Bravo.

Agree with you TOTALLY.

I came to these boards many years ago for game tips and help. I go back to the time when RPG meant D&D or some variant and there were no PC's. Bash Sir-Tech yes, if thier product is bad or support stinks, then complain but constructively. "The game stinks " or "the service smells" may vent some anger but it doesn't help improve the product or service. Bash Sir-Tech no, not about conditions beyond their control. Marketing decisions andpeople leaving, once they happen can only be fixed with great effort. The point being, Decado, sure you're frustrated, we all are (except for the beta testers, lucky stiffs )but don't pound the company for market forces.

Yes I am the same Avatar the usually comes in as a guest to be blunt I'oo lazy to login most times.

You deleted some of my posts? Funny I never noticed.

I don't appologise for anything you found offensive. If I posted it there had to be a reason, because I do not do such things to be a troll or start a flame war. However, I also don't just post to kiss ass. I don't remember much of my early posts...but from what I do recall and have seen in the archives they mainly have been composed of simple questions and my preferences. I don't doubt I've made a few "hot blooded" posts, but they served their purpose and I'll do it again (if not on this board, on others). If you don't like profanity, implement a filter. I can only assume we've all been subject to course language and I will use it when I feel it is appropriate. I know I do so rarely.

As for being snide...I thought it was rather humorous. This is the third (at least) time either Ian or Linda have said they are going to announce a release date soon. Get it?

I think it is you guys who have to lighten up. The whole W8 thing hasn't bothered me for ages. We'll either get and I will buy it or we won't and I'll save $80. I'm more pissed at seeing Sirtech go under. They've been my favorite developer for years.

Decado,

Both linda and Ian have nexer been anything but upfront with the fans. They never gave a release date and have always (when they had any) released news of progress to us. Granted I can see your frustration, I've been waiting sice 1992, but that isn't a good reason to be snide. Things happen, both good and bad, re: 9/11, that can affect the ceation and marketing of a game. When (not if) Wiz8 comes out I am sure it will be worth the wait. If it isn't, the is the time for the wisecracks and comments. In otherwords, just because tou're impatient, don't rain on our parade.

Sorry Llev, know that I shouldn't rip but until Linda says it won't be I gotta believe that it will.

I disagree about the release dates. Linda and Ian represent Sir-Tech and Sir-Tech has given many official release dates in the past. Prior to changing it to "when it is ready". These release dates were on their web site and they did say official release dates (Season and Year). I visit this board every day and reframe from my negative comments most of the time. I did not think Decao's remark on this thread was offensive or inappropriate. If you do not like Decado's remarks than ignore them. By responding to them, does that not make things worse or start arguments. I wasn't going to respond to this thread when I first read it. However I'm tired of people defending Sir-Tech, especially when it comes to release dates. They have lied to us more than once and who knows what they have told retailers like E.B. and Amazon. 10 years is a long time to wait for a game so letting off some steam could help some of us feel better while we wait for the game to hit the stores.

"Lie ... really?"
Posted by Llevram on Oct-07-01 at 08:49 PM
Isn't a lie when you say something you know is not true? So, you think they purposely lied about release dates (back years ago - we haven't seen one other than "when it is ready" for about 3 years now - excluding the recent hints that it is drawing near). Isn't it just possible that instead of lying, they were just wrong and things have not gone as they planned or their plans were changed for them?

It's not like someone with the title of Lead Designer is the same thing as CEO, President, etc.

I agree that they have not changed their stance "when its ready" for the past 3 years but for the previous years they did lie. It was Sir-Tech's web site, it did say official release date and they were responsible for the information on their site.

"Isn't it just possible that instead of lying, they were just wrong and things have not gone as they planned or their plans were changed for them?" Yes it is and when they post an official apology on their web site explaining or apologizing to their fans/customers I will accept it but they have not.

This whole discussion started with "Third time is a charm".
Was this appropriate to the topic? yes I believe it was, how many times have we heard similar statements? Was it offensive, did it have profanity, was it rude, was he being mean? No. It was a polite way of saying, I will believe it when I see it. Or I doubt it but hope it is true.

This is Avatar's response to Decado.

I did not think this was fair to Decado. Decado did not say anything bad about/towards Linda and Ian. He just made a simple comment. This statement about release dates I believe is wrong and the statement about progress reports is boarder line. Going 3 months without any word or updates to their web site is not a good progress report. 3 years looking for a publisher and not giving any explanations is not a good progress report. Yes I understand what Avatar was saying. When Linda could give us information on progress she did. In my opinion, I do not agree that they gave us good progress reports.

I did not think this was fair to Decado and tired of people defending Sir-Tech. Let them defend themselves.

OK, maybe not 'only', but the majority of the sales, at any rate. There was another thread about this in the archives somewhere, but being a European, I am too lazy to go look for it

If you live in the UK you will be able to obtain a North American copy of Wiz 8 from http://www.strategic-plus.co.uk/welcome.html. If you live any where else in Europe You may be able to order it from Strategic Plus (I'm not sure if they ship abroad) or order it from the states.

Dear Linda,

I just wanted to state that I am absolutely annoyed by the way your OFFICIAL homepage www.wizardry8.com is lead. It's totally unacceptable that the latest news on the page are still dated April 27th. Even with all the problems your firm has been going through, I honestly believe that at least one reliable employee should have found the time to inform possible buyers of the delays. This is just not the way you keep possible buyers hot!

I know that you are not the responsible person for that, but apparently, you are the one to address it to.

Regards,
Marc

Since the company is out of money, prob closing their doors and most of the employees are gone/leaving, the remaining employees are probably focusing on getting the game in your hands so stop bitching about the damn website.

Unacceptable!? If it's unacceptable to you, be a man about it, don't go to the website anymore, don't buy the game when it comes out and stop posting stupid messages here.

Marc(guest) I must admit I agree with you. At the very least they can take the News section down. At the most they can give someone the responsibility of updating it once a month.

To: Whatstheholdup,
If you think pointing out a problem and offering a solution is unmanly then, by your own standards, you too need to be a man. And next time you wish to make broad general remarks you might think about how your remarks will affect you or your appearance.

The difference between a fool and a wise man is that a wise man keeps his mouth shut and a fool does not

If you think pointing out a problem and offering a solution is >unmanly then, by your own standards, you too need to be a man.

Where did I say that? He said it was unacceptable that a business that is closing down has not updated their website. I told him to be a man and do something about it other than bitch.

Offer a solution? Have an employee sit down and update the page! That's brilliant, marc!! I bet Linda never thought about that one. It's very obvious here if they had real information their webpage would get updated.

Based on the amount of time it has taken to get this puppy out the door, whoever is left should be worried about getting wiz 8 published, not posting "new info soon" BS on their website.

>And next time you wish to make broad general remarks you might >think about how your remarks will affect you or your appearance.

Broad general remarks? What broad remarks are you referring to? My message was right to the point. Anything you didn't understand, just let me know and I'd be happy to explain.

>The difference between a fool and a wise man is that a wise man >keeps his mouth shut and a fool does not

Did you have a lapse here by opening your mouth and, "by your own standards," reveal yourself as a fool or did your hypocrisy slip through?

First off, I would be happy to email Whatstheholdup if he posted an email address.

What I belive marc(guest) was trying to say is that to have the Latest news... be 5 and 1/2 months old seems a bit lazy. Even if they are having extream cash flow problems they have in their enploy someone who could take down the Latest News... section on the Front of the web page. Both Joebob and marc(guest) have valid points. Whatstheholdup IMHO you are just trying to start something, you did make a broad general statment, you said that marc was not being a man about it, and that you were saying he needed to do something "other than bitch." I'll wager you have complained about something in your life time at some point so Joebob was correct your broad general statment that he needed to do something "other than bitch," does apply to you and affects your appearance and creditibility.

Joebob also put at the bottom of his post a wise saying The difference between a fool and a wise man is that a wise man keeps his mouth shut and a fool does not What he was probably trying to say was that becareful when you speak because you will show the world your intelligence level. And by responding in the manner you did have shown the world your inteligence level, be that good or bad is all dependant on how you look at it.
