"Let us know if you set up a W&W section"
Posted by Chris Appel -ur on Aug-16-00 at 06:45 AM
Drop us a line at Heuristic Park if you DO add a discussion board for W&W. We like to drop by and keep up with what peaple are saying about the RPG and maybe answer a question now and then.

FYI, in addition to D. W. Bradley, W&W also features the work of Suzanne Snelling and myself, both alumni of Bane and Crusaders. Derek Hardison, who provided the 3D intro to Crusaders, also worked on the new RPG.

The game build is looking very stable, BTW. We have just a little more testing before we go gold.

This sounds like a good idea to me so may be we can start voting or something?

"I'd like to talk to HP about it first"

I had serious reservations about starting this board. The Internet started as a great place to find just about anything, but more and more, it seems it is getting harder to find what you specifically want. (Many needle and haystack analogies come to mind here ....)

Anyhow, I was worried that by starting this board, I would "split the fan base". If you want to find a Wizardry board, for help, info, whatever, why have two (actually there are more than 2, maybe 5)? To take it to the extreme, if every Wizardry fan had their own board, how would you ever find the "right" one, short of posting to many and seeing who might answer?

Likewise in regards to W&W, HP has their own board, Activision has their official site, there is a W&W VN board, Alz has a large portion of his site devoted to W&W and there is mention of others starting fan sites (which would likely include more message boards).

So I question if I would be doing anyone any favors by adding another spot on the Interenet where people would be looking specifically for W&W.

Then again, for those who don't know about the game and happen to find my site, it may help promote it. Then there is the added traffic (web space and bandwidth) that I would have to consider as well, if the additional section proved to be popular, which I am sure it would, once the game comes out.

Like I said, I'd like to (at least briefly) discuss this with HP before any "final" decision is made.

p.s. My reservations, in the case of what I have done so far, proved to be unfounded

p.p.s Though, it has caused me a few extra headaches

Well, i think the main thing is, since i tend to think selfishly, rather than in terms of the internet community as a whole, that we (as in the people who frequent this board) would consider it useful because it gives us a place to put our W&W posts, rather than cluttering up one of the other areas. When the game actually does come out, under the hopefully not so great assumption that it turns out halfway decent, I think that many people here will be getting it and talking about it a lot. I for one, actually place higher expectations for W&W than Wiz 8 simply due to the fact that 1. D.W. Bradley is in charge, 2. It might actually get released within my lifetime, and 3. D. W. Bradley is in charge. Now that I think back on it, the first time a Wiz 8 was mentioned would be my freshman year of college. Fast forward 4 years, I am now done with college, working, and still no word on when/if Wiz 8 will be released

"Well, we talked ..."

I talked (via email of course) with Chris and neither one of us had any real strong feelings either way, but the general concesus was that my level of coverage is adequate (or maybe it was appropriate) for now.

Since you have to post to use their official board though, that (my amount of coverage) may change once the game is out.

Now, if I were to get a beta copy to review, then things might change also

A whopping $5 more than the regular edition, listed with a release date of 9/27/2000.

I pre-ordered it with Windows ME (for 98 users as pre-orders for $50).

anyone happen to know what additions the collector's edition has? A brief hunt for information led me nowhere, so i figured i'd be lazy and ask, since i'm sure someone here knows

Like Heuristic Park's site, where they have a link to another site that describes it.

Believe it or not, i did check their site, just too tired to read through all the badly laid out text. I skimmed through the site, but only saw the highlighted words, in this case that would be the word "reports". Now if they had highlighted collector's edition I would've seen it

Over at RPGVault.com. A few new things (like on combat modes: Kiddie, Protected, Guarded, DeathMatch), more insight to a couple areas (like roles, such as you start as any one of 4, then 8 more are available and you can possibly attain the remaining 3: Zen Master, Assasin & Valkyrie) and more talk on traits (even Boogreism).
