the wiz 1 for wsc is better in graphics and sound than the gameboy version. the wsc version also has 20x20 maze rather than 16x16 maze as in the gbc version. the spells of wsc version are more like the original apple ii version and are not as powerful as in the gbc version (madalto can cause 172 damage?!)

the good thing about wsc is that i can restart right before the encounter in the state of a camp, and when i restart the monster changes to a different one. it's good whenever i bumped into maelifics and vampires. i can also do a soft-reset (pressing Y4+start) rather than having to turn off the wsc.

wsc doesn't have 3 save slots as in gbc. wsc also has something called 'wondergate' which lets you download extra dungeons and items through a cellular phone (japanese system). since i don't live in japan i'm not sure what it is. but i've checked the wsc wizardry webpage and there's a survival mode after you beat werdna. i see a record of over three thousands in survival.

Hey Beak,
Can you submit a link to the WSC Wizardy website? I would like to check it out.

for wsc check out http://www.sting.co.jp/game/wiz/

now that i've played both the gbc and the wsc version. the wsc is undoubtedly better in graphics, sound, and more 'original' than the gbc in terms of spells, monsters, and items. but wsc also has a major problem: it doesn't have the 3 save slots feature as the gbc does. so you've got to be real careful when playing wsc, i.e. don't fight monsters other than those you can handle.

i notice sometimes the game screws up when you reset (found both in gbc and wsc) normally you can restart a party after reset, but sometimes when you reset and restart, your party is LOST!!! not found anywhere in castle or maze. sometimes you can send a backup team to the maze to search for the dead bodies of you other party, but sometimes the dead bodies are gone (i.e. LOST) and are nowhere to be found in the maze. i've lost my all-spells bishop this way when i was training him alone at the murphy's ghost of level one. i just keep pressing (A) button to fight without noticing he was killed by murphy's ghost. i thought i could recover his body by sending a 2nd team, but i couldn't!

here's my advice: if you die, are drained, are in rock, or screw up your malor and end up somewhere outside the maze, DO NOT press anything. RESET the game right away within the 'turn'. don't leave the cemetry. you might have a chance to return to the point right before the unfortunate. but if you left the cemetry or your turn, the game is automatically saved and you can only restart in a dead condition. this is especially important coz the wsc doesn't have the save file feature as gbc does. in gbc you can still recover by copying an old save file, but in the wsc you're doomed! (i've once had my all-spell-ninja teleported straight to castle, but somehow i screw up the coordinates and ended up in the moat and my ninja is LOST - they don't return the dead body to temple cant, they just DELETE it forever from the roster! f*ck!) please be careful when playing with malor in wsc version coz the malor interface is very confusing. even wizardry expert like me could screw up. there's no bishop cheat or editor whatsoever as in ultimate archives or apple ii version. i'm still looking for any cheat but i haven't found any.

check the following link as well if your browser supports japanese character display

http://www.swan.channel.or.jp/swan/software/line_up/wizardry/index.html

the background shows what a wonder swan color look like. it can be held and played both horizontally and vertically. i bought the wsc just for playing wizardry! there're a number of other games but most of them are rpg (e.g. final fantasy)
