"Invokable items in Wizardry 8"

Posted by HBK21GOD (Guest) on Jul-11-04 at 06:33 AM
Wizardry 8 is by far one of the great RPGs!

One question: Does anyone else wish that the developers would have kept the ability to invoke those items that had special powers?
Especially when all base stats have been increased to 100.
It is almost impossible for me to get one of my 6 created characters to have any base stat up near 100 so to learn a special ability (reflextion, power cast, etc).

Just some of my thoughts! I enjoyed trying to get my PCs base stats up to 20 in Bane and Crusaders!
How about the rest of you?
Take care,

Except for the 5 point intelligence boost at Fuzzfaces fountain, they don't boost statistics anywhere. Not even as a reward, like in Witch Mountain or the Black Door. But our need for it disappeared when they eliminated career-switching as a strategy. You never lose the points, so you don't need to artificially add them back.

Well spoken, rbrown. Still, it would have been nice to add little boosts as rewards (like resistance to fire after courting Al'seduxus) as those are extremely motivating, I think.

Personally, I have difficulty raising base stats in one area at a time. I am usually increase 3 or 4 base stats per level up.
Thus, I will likely never trigger the 100 skill bonus of Reflextion, Snakespeed, etc.

It would be nice if those items with special powers were still invokable so that there could be a better chance of reaching 100 in some base stat areas.

Only with using RPCs can I get their base stats up to 100 because some of them start with high base stats in at least one area.

How do the rest of you handle incrementing base stats? Do you care if you reach 100 in Strength, Speed, etc?

By concentrating on a caracters strengths first and not planning on class change you can get to the expert skills quickly leaving you to augment others at a slower pace. Remember if you get to level 25 at AP you have had 150 EXP to distribute brtween the 4 or 5 major primary skills your character needs. example lizardman fighter if you concentrate on STR and VIT you con be up to exoert skills by level 11, aquire an ANKH of DEX and SPD you have s killer tank that does awesome damage of course he is as dumb as a stump but who cares .

I usually try to raise the stats to 60, 70, 80 etc., because for most skills these numbers unlock the inherent bonuses they grant. As an example, reaching a speed of 80 gives the char +1 AC and +1 initiative compared to 79. Same for Strength (+1 to-hit, +1 attack rate) etc. Refer to this page: http://i45.narod.ru/wiz/stats.html
for an exact breakdown.

On that page the expert skills, which are unlocked when a char reaches 100 in an attribute, are explained. They are definitely worth the effort!

I personally would recomend trying to hit the 100 mark. I have played the game without trying to hit 100 and with trying to hit it, in my opinion its worth it.
